314475 2006-08-16 06:32:00 The psychology of driving a car in NZ... dolby digital (5073)
314476 2006-08-16 06:48:00 Seeing this thread to me is timely as yesterday I was involved in an accident. We were following a ute with a boat in tow when the ute slowed down and signalled to turn left. All traffic slowed down and we waited for him to turn off the road, we were about to take off when a group of 4 female tourist drove into the back of my car.

I kid you not. Anyways noone was hurt, so we managed to get a panelbeater out for a quote (not an easy task on a sunday i tell you) and gave it to the tourist. They then said no problems and gave us it in cash. They said they will just buy another car the next day (today) and take their one to the wreckers.

I wish I had that kind of money....

Porbably cost them sod all. They buy them from some dodgy outfits in Auckland and tend to be left around Queenstown...

314479 2007-01-14 06:06:00 As is this (Report a bad driver to the Police):
www.police.govt.nz

Its totally anonymous (So the bad driver wont know it was YOU who dobbed them in), and much better than getting even. If a driver gets enough of these, the Police will apparently send somebody around to have a chat to them...
Whats great is they also send you a copy of the letter sent to the bad driver, so you can see that something is actually happening from you taking time out to fill in the form etc :)

314480 2007-01-14 07:15:00 the problem with Kiwi driving stems from the actual driving test being so easy .

i agree, it is too easy, but then again i just failed my full motorbike test soley because my 2 seconds is different from the examiners two seconds! how subjective is that!?:yuck: all ran perfectly until that last 5 minutes on the motorway!

then i got to rebook, and find there's no open times for over two weeks!

the test was $115, resit $70, gas (guestimate for two 1 hour tests) $5
thats $190, plus the money i will lose as i had to book during work hours
i've already spent $180 getting learners and restricted, young people cannot afford this!

the problem with making a comprehensive test is the price, no wonder there are so many unlicenced drivers out there . i don't see how they can charge $40 for 2 minutes of data entry and $70 for an hour of a guy driving behind me counting!

problem only is compounded by the attitude of one person i saw on tv after being handed $1500 in fines - "no i didn't learn my lesson, i'll just keep paying $10 a week"

now why has this thread been resurrected?

Do they?
I thought they just send a confirmation letter saying that they had been in touch with the offending driver. Not a carbon copy of the letter they sent them as such. Has this been your experience?

How long are your seconds? Did the last 5 minutes on the motorway seem to last forever?............like an accident does :D
