Exactly. It's all very well campaigning to get people to wear seatbelts, for example. But it won't reduce the occurence of an accident. Instead of adding to the road toll, it just adds to the sorry unreported road statistic which gets brushed under the carpet. |

| 314466 | 2006-01-01 10:45:00 | The bad driving problems of today are not caused by Asians, roundabouts etc. etc. but speed and failing to keep left - and I mean left, that is: not having a wheel over the centre line at any time. You will be happy to know that I always overtake on the left. |

Teehee! Point taken. but you do know what I mean? Yeah I do. I"m always careful around central Otago for instance. You see lots of sloppy people on corners who cross the line. Then there are the tourists who head off on the wrong side of the road. |

| 314469 | 2006-08-07 12:08:00 | Sad to see that so many Kiwis still haven't changed their terrible attitude to driving. Idiots continue to get licences. And nothing continues to get done about it. Meanwhile, people continue to die. tvnz.co.nz |

Then there are the tourists who head off on the wrong side of the road. Maybe it's us thats on the wrong side of the road. There was an article about 6 months ago in the NZ Herald motoring section that said only about 22% of the worlds motoring population still drive on the left.. |

| 314471 | 2006-08-13 18:36:00 | the problem with Kiwi driving stems from the actual driving test being so easy. When we first arrived here in Aucks 7 years ago all I had to do was drive around the block, no emergency stop, no reverse parking, no 3 point turn, just drive around the block and I had the license in my hand half an hour later! In a lot of western countries you have to have at least 15 lessons with a qualified instructure before you can even go for a driving test. Having said that I find Kiwis thee most placid ( she'll be right) people in the world until you get them behind a wheel! but then I remember that I'm in a country where extreme sport is the norm! | bring back the abacus (6878) | ||
| 314472 | 2006-08-14 00:40:00 | If you want to compare how bad Kiwi drivers are, just look at the way we park.... Everytime coming back from overseas, it never ceases to amaze me how many scratches and dinks we have at the corners of the bumpers of our cars. Not even in Thailand or China where there are tons of vehicles do you see cars with that many scratches. Almost every car more than 5 years old has some sort of scratchmark, whether it's self inflicted or damaged by others. What does this indicate? For goodness sake, we can't seem to park! You see cars a meter from the kerb, blocking the road. Or you see one car occupying two lots which have been clearly marked. If we can't even park properly, what does this indicate? |

| 314474 | 2006-08-14 09:45:00 | Seeing this thread to me is timely as yesterday I was involved in an accident. We were following a ute with a boat in tow when the ute slowed down and signalled to turn left. All traffic slowed down and we waited for him to turn off the road, we were about to take off when a group of 4 female tourist drove into the back of my car. I kid you not. Anyways noone was hurt, so we managed to get a panelbeater out for a quote (not an easy task on a sunday i tell you) and gave it to the tourist. They then said no problems and gave us it in cash. They said they will just buy another car the next day (today) and take their one to the wreckers. I wish I had that kind of money.... |
