637763 2008-02-05 11:09:00 I was using "IE6 icon creates shortcut"

only a couple of the 'fixes' found that may be usefull to you I think

First this one (www.fjsmjs.com) in relation to the file association you mentioned
It comes under the Heading "If nothing happens..." - but it's the same settings to check for

and this one here (www.mcse.ms) which seems quite promising to me for some reason

Did you see that one? I know one of your links went to another thread on that site also.

Let us know when/if you get a result with that prob - Im curious now! :)

i dont know if we got the same problem . .
when i enable IE desktop icon from Display Properties, and use that to open an IE window, it creates a shortcut of it . if you right click on it, there's no option to open . .

now if you try opening a website by typing it in an normal window's address bar, an error message will appear, "application not found", my temporary solution here is installing FF . if FF is installed, when you try to open a URL, it will automatically open an FF window . and now you're using FF, not IE6 .

but if you try to open IE6 using "iexplore" command at start->run, it works fine .

i also tried using a different user account, well the problem is also there .

i already did the "sfc" command;
ive done reinstalling ie . inf;
run a few personally trusted registry fixers;

none of the stuff i did solve the problem . .

what i havent tried is the mcse link bevy provided .
ill let you guys know it will fix it .

637767 2008-12-12 06:24:00 The fix is to install IE7

Big grin..

this is out of the option. my client has this application that does not run in IE7..

btw, the mcse from bevy's link fix the IE6 icon on desktop creating shortcuts..
however, there still the "application not found" error message when i try to enter a website.. if i install FF, the website i tried to access in IE6 will open in FF...

i install IE7 and find it working fine .
then i uninstall it so IE6 would be like refreshed . .
and the trick worked!

i got the idea from apsattv btw .
