637529 2008-02-05 06:48:00 For a non technical consumer like me would you please explain what you mean by them resetting the ports. In other words is the intermittent problems I am having their fault??

Well, its a bit like restarting your computer, except with Telecom asam's its only the port on 1 of many cards your DSL is attached too.

Basically, if they reset the port due to overloading of the card through too much demand, its like xtra admitting over committment of broadband, probably why they often dont advise you of what they are doing...LOL

637531 2008-02-05 09:45:00 It gets a bit more exciting now. Just had the big cheese from Downer Invercargill ring me. All happy and cheerful to begin with.

I told him the situation, who I was and why I get to hear about it all.

He then told me his tech was talking to Hamilton (hang on, wasn't it Auckland?) and yes our settings are different and there are some issues when they set up broadband.
I mentioned these people are not new connections and some of the times/dates involved - one down, another up and so on.

I said our rubbish old exchange is not one Telecom is much interested in and he said our exchange is just like (a list of small ones in Southland I won't bother naming).
I pointed out that I was well aware that we are not the only ones in NZ with inferior broadband but I am dealing with our recent problems not the state of NZs broadband in general.

He got quite snotty and asked me "what do I know about it, am I an Exchange Installation Technican?"

I told him no, but my husband used to be and did he want to have a chat with him, seeing he installed exactly this sort of equipment back in the late 80's, early 90's?

I told him that people are now wanting to put in a formal complaint to the TDR and he then said we should be grateful we have broadband and if we were on a farm we wouldn't have it at all.

He said he'd contact me again on Friday to obtain a list of names and phone numbers of these people having problems, this after he aleready told me he knew how many there were as the fault reports have come across his desk.

Well, we are accumulating names and numbers now, hey, its a small town, everyone knows everyone, so yep we'll do that and then I think do the TDR form as well.

637532 2008-02-05 10:12:00 Telecom made $3b last year, what with sale of yellow pages. About f-ing time they reinvested some of it. I'm just a little way out of the middle of wellington, and we're having adsl issues too, you'd think a metro area would be pretty ok right? Goes down for about 30min a day. Had a visit from a tech today, thing is nobody actually asked them to come... weird. Would change to telstra, but we get broadband for free as flatmate works for the buggers.
Anyway, I blame Muldoon.
Workmate said today that they trialled putting optical through to everyones houses in churton park a while ago, then scrapped it. Is this true?

They could always hire back Teresa and make her do all the installations! She was the one that sank NZ's BB that low in the 1st place anyway.
