| 313933 | 2005-01-14 19:51:00 | I'd hate to have everything I did in my youth splattered all over the newspapers and it must be horrible not being able to trust your so called friends. What a lonely goldfish bowl life. Just leave the guy alone and he'll probably come right as most do. Think we need another name for NEWSpapers though, any suggestions :-) |

| 313938 | 2005-01-14 23:38:00 | Roll on the Republic. So you'd rather the American model than the British? :) Leave the poor kid alone I say. He didn't choose to be born into that family - he had no choice at all. We've all had a chance to live a bit if we wanted, have some fun, fool around a bit, so why not give him a chance too? I have no problem with him wearing a Nazi uniform. I'm not saying that what the Nazis did was right, but Prince Harry isn't a Nazi is he? There is always someone who might get offended by something like a dress-up party - sooner or later the things will be so politically correct that nobody in the public eye will be able to attend one just because they might offend someone. It was a party. He went to have fun. If it wasn't for someone putting a photo in the tabloids nobody would ever have gotten offended by it. Mike. |

| 313939 | 2005-01-15 00:03:00 | There is an aspect of the British having a monarchy that may have been overlooked. The police, the armed forces, and the public service swear allegiance to the monarch, and are servants of the monarch. So in the final analysis, when the chips are down, and an unscruplous government tries to overturn rule of law, or revolutionaries try to take control, or government breaks down, then power still resides ultimately in the hands of the monarchy and her servants, and not in the policians. No doubt arguments can be made for and against this concept. Whilst the British Monarchy did indeed resist Hitler, the question very much remains whether Edward VIII would have done so, given his attraction to Hitler. It is also speculated, with good cause, that the King deputed Anthony Blunt to go Germany at the end of the war to retrieve documents that would have embarrasingly compromised Edward, and hence The Royal Family. |
