313729 2005-01-14 08:54:00 Stupid me, I meant to say: The poll questions are not quite right Rob, in lumping Freeware and Shareware together, so I find myself unable to vote. Terry Porritt (14)
313730 2005-01-14 09:03:00 The only program that I haven't paid for yet is Opera but I do plan to support them one of these days soon. :)

With all the good remarks you have made in the past about Opera, I reckon they should be paying you, not the other way round. :)

313733 2007-08-27 21:57:00 I was thinking about this yesterday while I was loading all these great, free programs on my neighbours computer, which brought it back to life and got it humming along.
So found this thread and just wondered how many who posted saying "I haven't, but one day........." and those who have read the thread and thought "yeah, it wouldn't hurt to give Spybot (or others)$10" actually have?
Disc: I haven't, but I'm going to-one day. Today!

313734 2007-08-27 22:22:00 Well, they don't make it that easy! To donate to Spybot you either use PayPal or a money transfer service called Moneybookers, which you have to register and open an account with.
Has anyone used Moneybookers?

313735 2007-08-27 22:46:00 I like the concept of try before you buy, whether it's shareware or a trial version. It seems only fair to support those who produce the goods in this manner.
There is an obvious opening for someone to develop a simple means of contributing to these developers. (M$ and Apple need not apply.)

313736 2007-08-27 23:44:00 Depends on how much I use it or rely on it. Programs like Winzip, Search & Replace and a couple of others definately pay for since I use them a lot.
I created a Winzip Faq years ago and Nico Mak hosted it on their site. This got me a free copy of that version at the time but since then I have reg'd later versions of it

313737 2007-08-28 00:33:00 Freeware is freeware, so you dont have to pay. Some like SpyBot ask for voluntary donations, others ask for postcards etc.

Shareware you have to pay for if you want to keep it

I do sometimes.
Bought a friends program once, because it was excellent. Even though he'd already given it to me.
Paid SPybot a donation too, seeing as I install it all over the place.
After all, it encourages these people to continue the good work.
