2008-02-06 22:30:00 | Hi folks, any help with this problem ? I have recently found that every time I Right click on any folder I get on screen: "Windows Explorer has stopped working- looking for solutions-restarting", then it reverts back to the desktop. I'm finding this very restrictive and wonder if any of you have fixed this without using a restore point. Regards, Blanco.

2008-02-07 00:07:00 | Have you installed anything recently? A few programs give you menu options when you right-click on a file or folder, along with the standard Windows options. It may be one of these that is causing the problem.

2008-02-08 12:50:00 | CYaBro. This is not the cause but thanks for your quick response. I am including the error details from the Problem Reports & Solution Section. This report is gobbledegook to me but I guess it means something to somebody a bit wiser. I have never had any response from Microsoft to any auto reported problems. Do they ever respond? | 638103 | 2008-02-10 19:14:00 | From blanco: I've just done a sys restore back to 14 Jan. This has cleared the problem but of course it removed five progs installed since then. I will reinstall these one at a time and should find out which was responsible for the problem. Will let you know.

2008-02-10 19:29:00 | That file doesnt belong to Vista, it belongs to Powerdesk. It tells you the problem file in that error log (pdshext.dll). Sounds like the shell extension for Powerdesk is restarting / crashing. Uninstall it. Bet that'll fix it. It maybe corrupt. Or install a later version, which might fix it.

2008-02-10 22:36:00 | Speedy, thanks a lot. I'll note your observation for the future but I have just reinstalled, uninstalled and reistalled again Jzip 5, which my system restore took out and this has reintroduced the Windows Explorer failure both times. Now I've removed it again and things are back to normal so this looks like the culprit to me. it was installed around the time that the problem started, By the way, the report I posted was copied from the Problems & Solutions section of the control panel. If the problem shows up again I'll Have a look at Power Desk as you suggest. Thanks again, mate. Blanco

2008-02-10 22:46:00 | I'm having a similar thing, except only when i try and share files over our network. Vista doesn't seem to want to see our network at home anyway, it'll access the net fine, but as for sharing it's a no-go. Is there something different in vista that I need to do to recognise network places? All I see is my computer when I look | Thebananamonkey (7741) | |
