313989 2005-01-14 12:13:00 In contrast to views expresed elsewhere that personal weakness was the cause of PC's getting infected by spyware this article gives us a glimpse of the situation at hand.

www.eweek.com

58 folders, 786 files and an incredible 11,915 registry entries all created by MS's DRM (remember folks,we are not the customers MS chase, the media compaines are)

For those that think Trademe are getting a bit out of hand,

news.yahoo.com

so yeah,Trademe are milking it.

and just because it made me laugh

313990 2005-01-14 19:04:00 Solution to 1.
Unplug monitor, keyboard & mouse then plug them into the New Mini Mac from Apple. No viruses, no spyware but comes with a great, easy to use OS and iLife comes free. http://www.apple.com/

Solution to 2. Run your own garage sale.

3. Thanks for the smile.

Linux is cheaper, no question about that but I do enjoy using an OS that is easy for everyone to use. I really don't think that the New Mini Mac is overpriced though.
One day I might get around to trying Linux on the XP but I'll never give up my Mac which will have Tiger in it's tank within 6 months.
Have fun with whatever you are using :-)

313994 2005-01-14 20:39:00 Well said Sue. Mac OS X is rock solid and easy to use and for those that don't have the knowledge or experience to keep windows free of spyware and viruses it is ideal.
Linux is not at the stage yet where it is user friendly enough for the average user and Macs are not overpriced considering you that get such reliable and trouble free use.

Radeon 9200 with 32MB Graphics? I'd like to see it struggle with all the new Eye Candy the Apple shoveles onto the next version ;)

Or get rid of the OSX virus altogether and install Yellow Dog linux

Mixed reaction there . Windows XP and me are getting along just fine :) . I have to say I aggree with Mac users against Windows 95- The "Hi, I'm a mistake" version of windows .

I never got OSX running =\ . Contrary to the Ads and people's opinions, I have used 7 different Emacs, iMacs and Powermacs and not 1 of them actually did what I wanted, always crashing, running like a Dog or not runnign the programs altogether . I have to say I liked OS 8 better

Linux is not at the stage yet where it is user friendly enough for the average user and

I think that the likes of people like Chill, Jen, ilikelinux and many others (Can't name everyone that uses Linux) will say otherwise . After playing around with Knoppix I can sucessfully say that Linux has come a long way in usability . Besides, usabilty and asthetics are completly different things ;)

[quote=Safari]Macs are not overpriced considering you that get such reliable and trouble free use . [/quote

It's not just the initial cost . I like having freedom of choice in software and hardware, something that the Mac just dosen't have . And for the software that there is, it has to be ported to Mac, and that costs . First the creators want money, then the porters do too . I'm sure it is quite a reliable platform, but I can't see me getting an iMac untill hardware and software costs come down .

Nevertheless, if you're happy with your Macs, that's your choice . :)

No, I don't believe so :-) but we can all be friends here can't we?

I would hate a world were there was only one type of Motor Bike, Car, TV, etc. Room for all Computers & OSs and it keeps everyone on their toes. :-)

As far as software for the Mac is concerned I've had no trouble finding similar software, made for Mac not ported, that I have on my XP. I admit it's mainly freeware & shareware but darn good all the same.
Anyway, !'d better go and update my XP's virus checker again.
Have fun guys
