639096 2008-02-10 08:45:00 I have just built my first pc, but when I try and play games (Call of Duty 4, Command & Conquer Tiberium Wars) it usually crashes and then it restarts, sometimes the blue screen of death flashes up for about half a second before the pc restarts. It doesn’t always crash at the same point in the games. Sometimes I can complete entire missions/levels before it crashes. Anyway I’ve tried everything I can think of to fix my pc but I’m completely stumped.

I have downloaded the latest drivers for everything, downloaded all the updates from Microsoft, gamed with my case open (In case it’s a overheating problem), gamed with the graphics on the lowest possible settings, and gone through the BIOS to check the settings, reinstalled everything. I have also ran Memtest86+, it comes up with a few errors on test 5 and 8.

Any suggestions to what I should do or try?

639097 2008-02-10 08:51:00 Frankly, I do not understand why you ask. The reason for your system's random restarts is the memory, it was the most likely cause, and it is confirm by memtest. It could also have been latency issues, but for the memtest results Do you have warranty still? georgeks (9122)
639098 2008-02-10 09:04:00 Looks like it is your RAM, try removing one stick and running Memtest if that gets errors, try the other stick, if that gets errors, try other RAM slots on the mobo and even different RAM.

If one stick gets errors and the other doesn't, try gaming and see if it crashes, if not then it is the RAM stick that gave the errors (which is what I am putting my money on)

Memtest should not give any errors on perfectly stable RAM.

639099 2008-02-10 09:05:00 It may well be because of the few errors found by memtest. Try doing memtest on each stick of RAM. Put one out, memtest it, and do the same with the other.

If both results in errors, take it back.

639100 2008-02-10 10:36:00 I ran Memtest again on each stick of RAM and it said it couldn't find any errors.I then put both sticks into slot 2 and 4 and did another Memtest and it found the same error's as I was originally gettting Krisby5 (13221)

Take the RAM back to where you purchased it from and get it replaced :)

639102 2008-02-10 18:29:00 Yeah I've had this problem a few years back . I used 1 stick and Memtest didn't pick up any errors but when I chucked in an extra stick, I got errors on BOTH sticks and experienced what you have described .

I wouldn't return it yet as your RAM might be perfectly fine and the shop might charge you a fee for wasting their time . I'm not sure if your motherboard can handle all that bandwidth .

Basically you'd want to:

1) Test both sticks ONE at a time .
2) Lower the memory clock speed to 800 or 667 . Lowering the clock speed actually solved my problem a few years back . (See here ( . pressf1 . co . nz/showthread . php?t=65559" target="_blank">www . pressf1 . co . nz))

I have tested each stick by themself and I came across no errors but as soon as I put them together it starts coming up with errors . Could the CAS timing cause these errors? I have let my motherboard run the default settings for my memory .
Why don't you think my motherboard can handle the memory's speed? On my motherboards home page here ( . giga-byte . com/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview . aspx?ProductID=2625" target="_blank">www . giga-byte . com) it says i have perfectly compatible memory .

639104 2008-02-10 22:24:00 What version of the BIOS is on it??

Some BIOS updates may also fix ram compatibility issues.

639105 2008-02-10 22:29:00 I'm just assuming that your motherboard cannot handle 2+ sticks of DDR2-2 1066 ram which is a lot of bandwidth .

On my old KX600 Socket A motherboard (which on paper says it perfectly supports DDR400) couldn't handle 2 sticks of DDR400 so I had to lower it to 333 which worked perfectly . There wasn't much performance difference between 400 and 333 so I didn't really care much (not too sure about 800 and 1066) .
