639027 2008-02-10 04:28:00 I am in the market for a new LCD monitor for my PC. I am looking at approx 20inches. I DO NOT want a widescreen monitor; I want 4:3 format. I would quite like one that rotates to portrait mode. What would people recommend? I am trying to spend less than $450. p5t5r85nry (10658)

I have never heard of this brand. I was planning to buy a well know brand such as Philips, Samsung, Acer, Sony? I should have mentioned that I do not want it for watching DVD's or gaming. Mainly for Text, email/internet Word, Excel etc

639030 2008-02-10 05:18:00 Chimei is a pretty common brand these days. They're cheap, but from experience they are quite decent. Have had my Chimei 17" for nearly two years now. qazwsxokmijn (102)
639031 2008-02-10 07:10:00 I would stay away from ChiMei/PolyView/CMV.
Tha last place I worked at sold heaps of them and probably over 50% of them came back with faults.

Samsung, ViewSonic, Philips would be the brands I would choose.

639032 2008-02-10 08:51:00 I've got a 19" Polyview (V396). Had it a couple of years. The original had a stuck pixel and was replaced.
I like the styling, I like the colour. The only thing I don't like (but have become used to) is the "burn in - ghosting, whatever you want to call it" across the taskbar and icons, and because of that I wouldn't recommend them.
And yes, I've tried every cure mentioned on the internet. At worst the "cures" don't make any difference, and at best they help the burn in for a day or two, and then it's back. I live with it now.
If it wasn't for that I'd be singing their praises loud and clear.

That is the same problem that most the our faulty ones had.
They will replace it under warranty (3 year warranty on them)

639034 2008-02-10 19:41:00 Any reputable brand will do. I have 2 Viewsonics and no complaints.

As an aside. One of my monitors is a 24" wide screen and I love it.

Trouble always arises when you are buying down to a price so be careful about buying cheap no name anything.

Would be great until someone else wanted to watch the TV or a movie.
