638505 2008-02-08 08:23:00 Hi all

This may be a long shot, but it's worth a try :)

I have successfully set up Windows for Workgroups 3.11 on a Virtual PC (Microsoft's) and have accessed the Internet on it  (can post screenshots ;) )

Only problem is that IE5 (or it could be to do with Win 3.11 itself) can't understand domain names (eg www.google.com) but will only access Google though it's IP address (http:).

I can't access any links through Google though, because they all use domain names, not IP addresses.

If I enter a domain name in the address bar and press Enter, the "Page not found" error appears. If I try to ping the domain name it displays "Bad IP address for http://www.google.com". IP addresses ping fine.

Is there anything I can do to enable IE to be able to open domain names? I want to have the nostalgia of browsing in WFW 3.11 every now and again!!

638509 2008-02-09 10:07:00 Ahh the memories, m$ dropped the ball on 3.11 by thinking the internet is not going to be that big with home / business users...

I used trumpet winsock for my 3.11 days but this link will help you sort out the DNS stuff.

Good luck :)
