| 317531 | 2005-01-24 07:20:00 | I thought that this could be a good thread to start, so that if people see a computer shop that they are interested in, just post it here and see what people think of them. Good support/prices etc. One I saw http://www.playtech.co.nz. What do you think? |

| 317532 | 2005-01-24 10:50:00 | Remember two months ago when I recommended Orange Computers ( Well now, I think I may be just about to recommend PlayTech over them. PlayTech (http://www.playtech.co.nz" target="_blank">www.orangecomputers.co.nz)? Well now, I think I may be just about to recommend PlayTech over them. PlayTech (http:) is not actually a new company as it may seem -they are legally registered as TMC Computers which I'm sure many will remember. Been around for quite a while as opposed to Orange Computers. I think this would serve your warranty worries better I think. However, price wise, PlayTech would probably be not as competitive -but you don't mind extra do you? Service wise, I'm currently leaning towards PlayTech. Why? Last week, I signed up with PlayTech and was rewarded with a free optical mouse (with inbuild card reader) and mouse pad. Now, although the stuff were for 'promotional' purposes, the goods were not bad and they even couried it via. Skyroad Express. We all know how good Skyroad is don't we :illogical So about a day or two later I emailed back asking where it was, and still they continued to treat me like I've spent ten grand with them. They guy (probably the manager/owner) offered me the opportunity to have one of his salesman to personally deliver it should I not receive it by the next afternoon "to show my appreciation for your business". And no, I didn't pay him a single cent, so it wasn't really business -but he valued my "business". So next time I want to spend some money on computer hardware, I'll probably head their way first :D |

| 317534 | 2005-01-24 12:28:00 | PB Tech Hamilton Been reading their adverts in the back of PCWorld magazine: HIGH PERFORMANCE Pentium 4 540, 3.40Ghz Geforce PCX-5900 PCI-X VGA CARD 17" LCD 10/100 Network Onboard XP Home * hangon Intel 540 is actually 3.2Ghz  * Yeah I'm sure a 5900 is really 'high performance' for HL2 which they've got a pic of on the LCD screen. Not to mention they've got PCI-X on there? Are they running a server board in it with special PCI-X slots? Or are they actually thinking of PCI-Express aka PCIe or PCI-e? * 17" LCD doesn't say the specs. Better be low response or it won't be so high performance on those games. * Wow 10/100 network, that was superceded years ago. Most new motherboards have at least 10/100/1000 now. * XP Home :badpc: Don't seem that clued up to me. |

| 317537 | 2005-01-24 20:52:00 | I've always had satisfactory service for components from Computer Direct Greenlane/Ellerslie. I tend to use DSE for bits and pieces. Yesterday I used PC Tronix for the first time for a notebook (Onehunga). The transaction wasn't 100%, but ended up pretty good. Their website advertised the machine for about $50.00 more than I could get it elsewhere, but included a bag, according to their website and the guy I spoke to. When I went to pick it up the item hadn't arrived in stock and we had to hang around for a while, and when it did, it was sans bag. The guy phoned his distributor who advised no bag included (Around $50 retail). He tried to weasel out of it saying the website just had a typo on it, which was bollocks because he told me directly, and the fact that he called up to find out where the bag was. Then he also claimed the site didn't advertise the bag included until I showed him. If I hadn't insisted I would've been done out of 50 bucks. End of story, he said they'd absorb the $21.00 cost price and have it couriered to me this morning. True to his word it arrived at 7:15am today, so all's well. $50 bucks wasn't the real issue, but I won't deal with an outfit a second time that doesn't complete a transaction in a 100% up-front manner. |

Oh, I was just thinking that this would be a good thread for everyone to ask questions about computer shops, not just me. I just started it off. Very interesting to hear about you and playtech. I found it after that promotional deal had finished, rats. And I am wanting a new mouse as well :angry heh. Playtech and prices: I noticed that the are around the first 5 for a couple of things they sell in their gear shop, I havn't checked them all though. To be in the top 5 of pricespy, they must be very cheap (at least, for the 2 things I looked at anyway) About PBTech, I have heard that they are not very good. It is just what I have heard. As you can see, someone has already said that they are amazing, and someone else said they don't stack up. What do others think about PBTech ? |

Without seeing the ad I can't really comment but I accept what you say (since I haven't bought a pc world for a while ) Doesn't change anything for me. PB Hamilton is a stunningly proffesional outfit. I've pushed 30 grand a year on average (company and personal) through them for the last 5 years and never (as in really never) had an issue, a complaint, been unhappy, been dicked around period ! Doesn't seem like there copy writer/artistic director is so stunning. :xmouth: Nobody is perfect ;) No I don't work for them |
