316373 2005-01-21 06:30:00 Hello

I am planning a website that will (hopefully) generate revenue from advertising. I am thinking of only using Google Adsense (google.com) temporarily, while I build up a portfolio of more relevant advertisers. Has anyone used Adsense, especially for businesses resident in NZ or Australia? I am particularly interested in how much they pay, how reliable it is, and how complex is it to organise and run (in business terms).

Thanks, Vince

316374 2005-01-21 07:50:00 I think you'll find that it's against the t&c for adsense clients to disclose details of payment rates etc. somebody (208)
316375 2005-01-21 08:39:00 i use adsence on my web site www.theanswerguy.co.nz.

the only problems i have found is if you dont get many hits to a page it will show a "public service" ad

other problem is that it decideds on the ad form all the trext on the page and you have no way force a topic for any given page.

as for the $$ i have made.....

due to the T&C of the program i cant give numbers but i can say that after a few thousand advert views i have so much money i can almost afford a cup of coffie.

but they only pay out after you get to more than $100USD.

316376 2005-01-22 01:39:00 Thanks for the info guys. I may just use it as a place-holder so the site doesn't look so empty. And I'll buy my own coffee.

Cheers, Vince

316377 2006-12-18 00:18:00 Not being a necrophilic here, but I am interested in signing up for Google Adsense too. However, I was taken aback when they demand users to submit their tax information if they are US citizens or provide proofs that they are not in New Zealand. What sort of "proof" are they looking here? And do they actually call you if you give them your phone number?

Cheers :)

316378 2006-12-18 22:11:00 I can't really remember but I think it was just a signature? (in text).
I have made enough for a chai or ice chocolate or something similar, but yes i need to wait till I reach that magic 100 dollar mark.
This link was posted in a previous thread (link (xmb.stuffucanuse.com)) that will help ban "Made for adsence" ads, so more profitable, interesting ads may show..
Still, its quite difficult to drive traffic to a website without a good design or interesting content

316379 2006-12-19 01:43:00 I have used adsence for a number of years now .

Two important factors infuence your income .

1 . Your popularity - it seems a 5% or less click through rate is common (certianly for me), often far less than that . So for every 1000 people who visit your page only 50 will click on an advert (if your LUCKY) . Hence you need to have heaps of visitors to make any income .

Otherwise you need 2

2 . Tightly written pages on a topic that people are interested in . Webdesigners who design their pages to get high indexing in google, (which should be everyone) will find the adverts are automatically selected that best reflect the content of that page . The more wishy-washy your page content the more generic and ultimately poorer the adverts .

The problem with having google adverts on a business website is that your competitiors may get free advertising on your page . You can filter them out using a filter system in google, but really the best adverts are on pages where people want information about a topic and see the adverts as another way to get that information .

Really unless you are just looking to recoup your hosting expenses, there is a big load of work in making a website a good income earner with adsence .

That there are people out there making truck loads of money reflects that their site is already very popular and successfull, and the google income is a secondary offshoot of that popularity . I have a pretty big site, yet the vast % of my income comes from only 5 or so pages, the rest of the pages pay only a very little .

Still no try no income, you can't lose by having google adverts .

Ever thought of those people that are put off by Ads by Goooooooooogle and and leave your site. Ok, its probably only very few people, but I find myself turned off by Google ads. Ok I can look the other way and think that they need the revenue to fund other "free" stuff but as it becomes more "popular" on internet sites, me no like :D

316382 2006-12-19 06:36:00 Yeah, but I am interested in knowing what I must do first before being allowed to put Google Ads on my website (besides signing up, of course).

Cheers :)
