639086 2008-02-10 20:50:00 A cheaper solution, would simply be a separate monitor and a SFF (Small Form Factor) Case which could even be placed behind the monitor.
And, you think I could make(get a grunty machine in there?
I'll have a look at those cases

639087 2008-02-10 21:01:00 One of these (www.playtech.co.nz), packs a decent punch and is only 98mm deep. If your program needs higher specs just tell PlayTech and they can upgrade the system.

639088 2008-02-10 22:20:00 My flatmate has a 20" iMac and it performs really well in both OSX and XP. He got his for around $1800. Mac's aren't really that expensive anymore, IMO Macs are better for most people atm than PC's are, less bugs, no virus worries, and way more reliable. High end stuff with them becomes expensive fast, but I'd seriously consider going with the apple. And no kidding about the RAM... OMG! $15000 for 32gig of RAM on the MAC Pro. *Gasp*. 639089 2008-02-10 22:47:00 Its $2150 for the lowest spec iMac with 2Gb of RAM which would be necessary for any decent 3D CAD work. Thats expensive considering you only get a low end graphics card and low end Core2Duo processor. stormdragon (6013)

That's also what I think.
The 24" top range is close to 4 grand!

is that not a trade mark of ...le?
I would've bought a mac long time ago if it wasn't for the price!!!:horrified

True, especially in NZ  Although as you have just pointed out yourself - similarly designed All in One PC models actually work out more expensive.

It is just a pity they charge so much for the "their" RAM when they buy it so cheap and theirs is no better than regular PC RAM.

My prog is Nemetschek Allplan and 4GB is adequate.
Typically **c is priced at the high end. The 24" though does look in the price range.

When you are showing a finished 2D or 3D job to a client what media format or app do you use for the presentation - if you do presentations? (if Nemetschek Allplan doesn't have one)

Sometimes I make an .avi movie(walk though) or more often still images (.jpegs).

639094 2008-02-11 07:54:00 RAM from an Apple reseller is expensive, but www.laptopbattery.co.nz
looks like a very good deal to me.

So iMovie/iPhoto or Final Cut Express would have you sorted in that department.
