638428 2008-02-08 19:52:00 WMG you are back! That was not Winmacguy, but a regular user who had already been asked once to let this spoof account die and not to use it in this manner. I've banned that account to prevent further temptation. Jen (38)
638429 2008-02-08 22:06:00 geez, Thanks Jen.

638434 2008-02-10 19:05:00 If theyve got dialup, are you using your modem/router??

If you are, is their line enabled for ADSL?

Whos line is it connected to?

Yours or theirs?

I'm using my broadband, no issues there.

They were on dial up, which seems to still work.

I have made the ethernet on the mac the 'default' network and internet device.

638435 2008-02-10 19:11:00 Terminal on a Mac is located in the Utilities folder in Applications in the Finder (alphabetical order) The update from Apple for iWork08 will fix a few bugs.

Yes - I mentioned I had looked for it there. It's missing.

Type Termninal into Spotlight if you are stuck.

Still doesn't find it. Finds an empty folder called Terminal but thats all.

Did you try opening Safari to get on the net?

...Yes...

if all else fails System prefs>network>ethernet

If all else fails? I have been poking around in there for a while now with no success.

Everything you have mentioned here I have already tried and it's failed. Maybe it would do you good to real the earlier posts before posting.

638436 2008-02-10 19:15:00 If you want to do ping tests there is a Network Utility APP in Applications.

Ahh, great. Thanks. Hokay. I can ping everywhere, now were getting somewhere. Gotta be DNS or proxy.

To set it up for Ethernet go to the apple menu/system preferences/network
Where it has Show - select Built in ethernet
Select TCP/IP tab - Configure IPV4 - Select Using DHCP
Select Ethernet tab and make sure Configure automatically is selected.

Done all that.

Thanks for your advice.

638437 2008-02-10 19:18:00 If they just want to update iWork08 that is done via Software update in System prefs.

OK, thanks. The Mac still thinks I'm not on the net though. I can ping, the network diag says it's all good, but no apps think I'm online.
