315863 2005-01-25 10:21:00 It wouldn't bother me if it was all Kiwi music, our home-grown is far better then 90 percent of the piffle that comes in from overseas (most music fans are the victims of mass-marketing and will never realise it,Simple Plan being one so obvious that its criminel)..However the quality of the Audio has to be there, they are asking for money after all, and 128kb wmv ain't worth getting for free.

Which gets to my second point,Price.

2 bucks for a heavily compressed song in data format.

Aye?

I could tape it off the radio and jave better quality (actually, i could use the FM Radio component of my capture card)

Have you actually downloaded a wma file? Once you burn it to a CD, the average Joe, which i'm sure you are, wouldn't be able to distinquish between the original CD.
Where can you buy a CD single for $1.99?
Can't you see what's happening? This is the way the world's going. I know it's a crazy thought, paying for music, but hey iTunes is selling 1.3 million songs A DAY!

315866 2005-01-25 21:47:00 Thought i might add a little more, Incase those so awesome with their assumptions read my post as an endorsement of stealing music.

I view music as an artform, I get my enjoyment from the ability of the musicians to create something worthy, I respect their talent and and and the effort they put into their work, Mass marketed piffle aimed at 14 year olds is aboraent to my ears.

I believe these artists creating worthy work deserved to be rewarded,Hence i purchase albums (even though they get a tiny tiny percentage of my dollars and the bulk of it goes to those who market their 'product').

However, To be worthy they must be able to produce a good album, a real work, not a 3 minute fix shaped by the recording industry.I do not buy singles, do not listen to the radio and sure as hell don't care in the slightest if 30 million people buy songs off of apple, I am no more likely to jump into the craze then i am to run down Noel Leemings and tick up a hp and then drive it home in a white Toyota.

Nor world i accept a product that is heavily compressed as being worth my dollar,no more then i would accept seeing a divx movie at the movie theatre.

As to your average joe quality, burn to cd dream, are you saying you take a heavily compressed low quality file then convert to wave, burn to cd and you suggest the quality is good?

I think you just shot yourself in the foot.

Just because the "average Joe" knows no better is not a reason to accept utter rubbish.

315871 2005-01-25 23:18:00 How dare you come in here and call Metla an "average joe", Pmin.

If you had any idea whatsoever of the supreme being that is Metla, you would have hung yourself by now. :p

In fact, it's far more likely that you are the "average joe". Take a look at yourself; you are implying that low quality WMA files have no noticeable difference to the original.

Audio compression codecs throw away parts of the song. Once you've encoded something at 128kbps, you've lost the quality forever, no matter how many times you burn it as an audio CD, decode it, or run it through filters.

The file size is small yes, but who's to say it is low quality compression, perhaps wav files are just too big .

Back to the 'avergae joe' listening test, if you were to listen to a random file of the same song, could you tell which was the 40mb wav or the 3mb wma, no .

That said, what is the problem .
