| 638950 | 2008-02-09 21:15:00 | I am hoping that someone can help me with a very troubling Boot-up problem that has been occurring for the last few weeks. When I start up my computer, the initial boot sequence proceeds normally up to the point at which the pale blue "Welcome" screen appears. Up until this problem started, the Desktop would load a few seconds after the 'Welcome" screen appeared now however the "Welcome" screen persists for at least 30 seconds, the Vista ring-throbber eventually appears, and then the whole screen goes completely black with the exception that my cursor shows and can be moved with the mouse. The black screen persists for anything up to several minutes until eventually the Vista ring-throbber re-appears followed by the Task bar which in turn is followed by the whole Desktop a few seconds later. On two occasions there has been a fleeting error message that appeared in the black screen indicating that " some logon failed" with something, but the screen is so transient that it is gone before I can really make a note of its exact wording. I should add that once the desktop has loaded, the computer works completely normally. It has not slowed down at all functions are as they should be. One other thing that I think may be related is the fact that I am unable to create a new user account on this computer. To be more specific, I can go through the motions of creating another user account using 'User accounts' in control panel, and when I have created the new account it does appear in the "manage accounts" dialogue box with its icon as it should. But when I restart the computer, the boot sequence is completely unchanged to that which I have described above, specifically I am never given an opportunity to log onto the new user account. And, more to the point, when I look at my folder tree in Windows explorer, under "Users" the only "Users" that appear are: Default; Public; and my Name. the user account that I have just created is not listed and naturally has no files assigned to it. I am sorry to have been so long-winded but I have been attempting to describe the problem accurately, and I do hope that someone can explain what is happening and more to the point, offer a fix. Thank you. :help: |

| 638951 | 2008-02-09 21:45:00 | how long have you had it installed, about a month back i had a similar problem where it got to the WELCOME, then went black. Turned out i had about five viruses! (lol?) Reinstalled XP (you could reinstall vista i think) next to the original OS (not on top of) i recovered my files, then formated the partition with vista on it. Please note that this is my own P.E. but if you havent donwloaded anything then this may not be your prob. | AMD3ALL3THE3WAY3 (116) | ||

I have scanned my computer with NOD 32 as well as several on-line virus scanners in addition I have run Spyware Doctor, Adaware and Spybot S&D....all clean I am reasonably certain that I do not have any malware. And as I said, once the desktop does load, the computer works normally. |

| 638953 | 2008-02-09 22:55:00 | Have a look at the Log files and see if anything is obviously causing the problem. Click on the start orb/in the search box directly above that type in eventvwr select Event Viewer from the search results. Open the "windows logs" Look at the Application & System logs, see if anything shows errors. If they do double click to expand them and post back the complete log error. Regarding the Creating of a New Account, is your current account set so you have administrator rights ? |

Regarding the Creating of a New Account, is your current account set so you have administrator rights ? wainuitech: Thanks for your reply. There is only one account on this machine which is mine and naturally with Administrator rights. The following is a copy of one of several errors that I found. If it is not of help to you, I can certainly post others. Log Name: System Source: netbt Date: 10/02/2008 9:20:18 a.m. Event ID: 4311 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: Seymour-PC Description: Initialization failed because the driver device could not be created. Use the string "0013D4D154A7" to identify the interface for which initialization failed. | 638955 | 2008-02-09 23:37:00 | This is the log file of another error which may be relevant: Log Name: System Source: atikmdag Date: 10/02/2008 9:20:25 a.m. Event ID: 45062 Task Category: CRT Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: Seymour-PC Description: CRT invalid display type Event Xml: <Event xmlns="schemas.microsoft.com <System> <Provider Name="atikmdag" /> <EventID Qualifiers="49152">45062</EventID> <Level>2</Level> <Task>44</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2008-02-09T20:20:25.046Z" /> <EventRecordID>65848</EventRecordID> <Channel>System</Channel> <Computer>Seymour-PC</Computer> <Security /> </System> <EventData> <Data> </Data> <Binary>00000000010000002C00000006B000C0000000000000000000 000000000000000000000000000000</Binary> </EventData> </Event> |

| 638956 | 2008-02-10 00:54:00 | This seems to be linked to the failure of ATI drivers presumably for your GFX card. What GFX card do you have installed in your computer and what version are the drivers? | beeswax34 (63) | ||
| 638957 | 2008-02-10 01:11:00 | Thanks Symiggy - the two could be related, but also quite separate - confusing eh! The event errors needed are the one(s) at the exact time the PC hangs on startup, esp since you mentioned its OK once going. OK try this, it may or may not help. 1 step at a time. Reboot the PC in safe mode, press F8 On startup - select Safe mode. See if the PC boots faster. It should as only basic Drivers are loading. This is to test the drivers - If it boots OK then reboot and try this - click startorb / in search type device select device manager, expand the Network Adaptors, right click your adaptor and disable, reboot - see if it boots faster, you wont have any internet so repeat and enable. This should test if the Ethernet connection is the problem. If it is try below ----- First Error message - in simple terms the description is saying the drivers for Network device / Ethernet connection are not talking to one another. this could be a corrupted TCP/IP stack . Could write out a possible fix but I'm being lazy - scroll down to the bottom of This page at microsoft (support.microsoft.com) locate the Vista fix and try that. If that doesn't work try downloading Winsockfix (www.softpedia.com) ignore any errors saying it cant find some things - it does function still. If its not booting any faster/correctly with the Ethernet disabled/ repaired, then it can also be the Graphic Drivers - ATI Drivers Fix (support.ati.com) The event ID you provided is relating to ATI Graphic Drivers - according to ATI - update to the latest from their site. Try those and see what if any thing works - may pay to try the driver update first after trying safe mode - one or the other appears to be causing it. |

| 638958 | 2008-02-10 01:17:00 | Dont worry about the ATI error, thats normal, I get that too . Its the version of the drivers thats causing that . If you reinstalled 7 . 06, or under I think it was, that error wont appear . ATI know about it . That error is on their site . You may have to wait for SP1 to come out to fix the other error . Even tho this isnt for Vista ( . microsoft . com/windowsserver2008/en/library/949f21e4-aa8d-4ba0-b2f7-90ef99f27ec01033 . mspx?mfr=true" target="_blank">technet2 . microsoft . com) try it see if it fixes it |

| 638959 | 2008-02-10 01:18:00 | The event ID you provided is relating to ATI Graphic Drivers - according to ATI - update to the latest from their site. That why the ATI error appears, because the latest version of the drivers are installed. Like they are on here. The error wont appear with 7.06 or under. |
