This is an interesting astronomical manuscript. It is believed to have been written in 15th century, but it has been written in no known language.

I've looked and looked at this, letters can be recognised, and there is something disturbingly familiar.

Then suddenly this morning I realised what it was that was so familiar. I am almost certain this is a PF1 precursor, that is, an early style of writing and spelling we see so often on PF1.

It is nearly as intelligible as many posts we see on PF1.

What do people think, should I make a submission to NASA with my theory?

317404 2005-01-24 02:07:00 Nice one, An entire thread created so you could knock those that don't care like you do about their spelling.

You must be so proud of yourself, Perhaps i can join your ranks by making a thread mocking those that prefer 20's jazz?

No,I wont, Im not so far up i can't see the light.

317405 2005-01-24 04:15:00 Terry, I'm afraid you'd have to explain more. I don't quite understand. While it would be good for any NZ to make a submission to NASA ;) I don't find this interesting at all. Does anyone else? ~sy~ (95)

It's called the lead balloon syndrome ;)

317407 2005-01-25 00:27:00 Well Terry, your humour is a trifle arcane, as is the text, but I read several of the pages and once you get into it the mystery is quite engrossing. I can't imagine anybody devoting that much of their life to developing a fake language form but the amount of gold that changed hands was a fabulous fortune in those days and not too dusty today even.

However, personally speaking, I would have thought that with modern computers and cryptology knowledge it would have been either deciphered or debunked by now.

Cheers

My humour does offend some sensitive souls like Metla's but that's their problem

It is really strange that a book that has been around for several hundred years, and subject to close scrutiny for nearly the last one hundred years should defy all attempts at decipherment.

For what it's worth ( ), I think it is probably a gigantic hoax that earned the perpetrater a big bag of gold from Emperor Rudolf. The Irishman? Kelly, maybe that's why some of the characters have a Gaelic flavour.

Sy, have a look at some of the links on the APOD page, some of the sub-links don't work though, there is also a link to a discussion page where views can be submitted.

No way Metla, the nearest to that was one evening a week at tech to earn a bit of pocket money, setting up lab work for HNC students .

It has been said that those that can, do, those that cannot, teach. Ouch
