| 315617 | 2005-01-19 01:05:00 | 3 days into my new billing cycle and I've just been capped by Xtra... :groan: 15gb apparently... and even last month I wasn't capped and I reached a whopping 66gbs! A whole month at dialup speed. I think I'm going to cry. Lo. |

| 315618 | 2005-01-19 01:18:00 | What did you have to do to exceed that 15GB limit in 3 days? I reckon these so called broadband 'plans' are designed to screw the user big time . From where I sit, the limits that the telecos set seem to be totally unreasonable even for the prices charged . . . and even in relation to offshore deals available . |

They don't have to, but they can if they want. I have heard that they don't care if you go over by a little, as long as it isn't a great number like yours and that you don't go over every month. I rather think they manually cap people depending on their staff's mood ;) Besides what were you doing downloading 66Gb! |

Going completely off topic, I don't think the above is a fair statement. If people are saying to the two Iraqi (was it?) women to remove their Burqa here 'because they're here so have to settle to NZ rules' then I'd say 'if you offshore deals, then NZ allows you the freedom to travel aboard to take advantage of those deals' Life isn't fair I know. Come on, let's just go with what we have -think on the positive side of things, what would you do if you didn't have broadband  15Gb is a heck of a lot to be using, especially in 3 days. PressF1 certainly doesn't reflect the general usage of all NZers seeing as we have so many geeks here who I believe download 24/7 :nerd: |

The difficulty here is that Telecom controls "everything" to do with broadband in NZ ... they set the limits which all other ISPs have to conform to because they (the other ISPs) purchase the bandwidth through Telecom. However if Lo can use up 10GB in 3 days, what is he up to? |

I had the Xtra Helpdesk asking me if I had been updating my PC or had NAV calling home, etc . . . I mean honestly . . . 66gigs worth of updating?? I know Windows requires updating, but 66gigs of patches is ridiculous . In response to the original question . . . I decided to download all Linux distros, and delete and re-download them several times over using a download manager . All perfectly legal stuff . Lo . |

| 315626 | 2005-01-19 04:27:00 | i would rather be capped than see a massive bill at the end of the month, i leave my pc on nearly all day and night, i start to download the big files at about 10pm-8am, i would stay longer on the net but my parents wanna check their email on their pc. its good having 2 lines though |
