639766 2008-02-12 11:32:00 Hi,

I am having trouble getting on the net with my D-Link router/modem. The only way I can get access is with a dial up connection.

IE7 originally gave me a Winsock provider catalog issue, but I have been though a few fixes I found online with no luck..

Here is a Hijack this file I ran... Any help would be great..

Uninstall all versions of Java, yours is out of date. Link is in my sig.

Then reboot.

Whatever you've got thats Symantec, is it a firewall?

If it is, remove that or Eset Security. You shouldnt have more than 1 firewall installed.

639768 2008-02-12 22:29:00 Thanks Speedy, but still no luck.

I am trying to download the latest Java, but it is taking a while as I only have dial up at the moment.

I didn't have any Symantec, I used to have IS2007 i think but i removed it for Eset, I have just run a Symantec removal tool that seems to have cleared those Symantec issues.

Here is the latest Log

639769 2008-02-12 22:49:00 Are you using the same computer for dialup and broadband.
Is your router connected, do you have DSL and PPP lights
If so have you checked your Local area connection properties IP and DNS
Have you tried a repair of local area connection in Control panel/Network connections.

You are not giving many details of your exact problem, if you are using the same computer for dialup and broadband and dialup works it is not likely to be a winsock problem.

Have you configured your modem?? Put the password etc in it??

Tried resetting it??

Are the LED's on it on?? (the ADSL led on, the Status LED flashing, and the LAN led (whatever port you've connected to on)?

WHAT's the model of the modem??

I would also get ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com)

Install it (untick the toolbar option, if you dont want it).

Run it then click on run cleaner (close browsers first).

639771 2008-02-13 00:04:00 OK, I seem to have got the connection going..

I appears it may have been the modem (telecom 502T) all the lights were working and I could ping the modem. But I have changed it for an older 302G modem that I have and all seems to be well now.

I did have to change the security protocol from CHAP to PAP to get a connection, Is this OK? Not sure what it means.

It all started when I moved the computer and modem closer to the TV so we could look at our photos through the big screen. Maybe the modem just crapped out.

Anyway thanks for the help, will see if it lasts now

639772 2008-02-13 00:26:00 Just another question,

I am using Eset Smart Security, I get a pop up from Smart Sucurity about a new network and then when I accept it I have a look in the firewall and in the trusted zone I have my normal router IPand subnet address, but there is also a 127.0.0.1 address that has been trusted. Should this be in there?

Thanks

Shawn
