639471 2008-02-11 08:04:00 Got a customer call me today that had a PC fry from the Lightning storm in WGTN last night. He was gaming at some ungodly hour of the morning, we got a massive lightning flash and the whole house lights dimmed and PC went :yuck: Dead. (all my UPS's in my place went Nuts for a few minutes)

The Motherboards dead as a dodo - Rang one of my suppliers and his old board is now obsolete. This is what he had die (www.abit.com.tw X&fMTYPE=Socket+AM2)

The Replacement that is the closest to his is This here (us.dfi.com.tw) But at close to $450 - $500 its not cheap.

Any one used one before - any opinions ?

639472 2008-02-11 08:07:00 I have built a PC with it in. Seemed fine, it's supposed to be really good. It seems almost gimmicky in a way, but I think the quality is OK.?

I'd be going for an asus m2n SLI series.

639476 2008-02-11 08:15:00 Speedy - the board is LANPARTY UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G

If you google it that will find it, I found the site slightly slow earlier when looking using FF my self.

The guy said and I quote " just fix it - I don't care what it costs" hmmmm May have to call him first I think.:)

Meh, I hate that kind of job! You can be sure, after you've charged him $550 for the board and $100 or so labour, it will be, "I didn't think it would cost THAT much!!!"

I would probably recommend this (ascent.co.nz) board as a replacement for his. Only diff to the DFI is the chipset. It has the 570, the DFI has the 590.

Oh, and it's over $200 cheaper, and it's an Asus. :p

639479 2008-02-11 08:49:00 I have not used that board, but I have a DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR, has been great, never had any issues, has been overclocked its whole life, all 2 years  stable as a rock. The_End_Of_Reality (334)

So change the board, CPU and RAM instead then. He probably needs an upgrade.

And use a reasonably priced board.

Besides he can claim it on his insurance you know.
