639386 2008-02-11 04:08:00 Hi,
I'm trying to change the boot order so I can do a reinstall (total newb at this) but can't figure out how to do it. I've looked at lots of sites and they do say they can't cover everything so "read the screen". I'm at the AMIBIOS Setup Utility screen and when I go to Boot it's got....

Quick Boot Mode Enabled
Boot up Num Lock On
Boot to OS/2 No
Boot from Network Disabled

>Boot Device Priority

I've tried to find and change the order to go to the CD before the HD but can't figure out how to do it. When I get to the last one ">Boot device priority " it says e'thing is disabled anyway. Can anyone hold a noob's hand and talk me through this?
The machine's currently got XP on it but I want to a clean install. It's a hand me down and lots of stuff on it I don't want and I have made the mistake of connecting to the net without a current AV (4 yr old Nod32) Windows Firewall, no malware detecter or preventer. My bad. I want to a format / install anyway.
Any help much appreciated.

639387 2008-02-11 04:14:00 And the brand/model of the mobo is?

Or the brand/model of the system is?

639388 2008-02-11 04:27:00 The motherboard is a ASRock P4i45G. The comp is a Star Light- far as I can tell a custom build company in the States. Samsung Kboard and CD RW and Mag monitor. Is that enough?
I have changed the boot order with Award - was easy and obvious but this AMI isn't.
thanks

639389 2008-02-11 05:09:00 Got it!

Thanks anyway. Should have known from experience just keep going round and round the gas works till you do.

Cheers. m

639392 2008-02-11 06:40:00 All done! (for anyone interested). My first format and reinstall even got the activation done via 0800 no. Whoopee!
Only took about 3 days and 10 % hair loss but terrific.
