318081 2005-01-25 23:05:00 Greetings people,I am in a position where i need to buy a cordless phone for my shop,Looked at DSE site and though it burns me with shame the different models meant little to me.

Requirments are that its sleekish, and good value for money (quality) and a range of about 20m.

So if anyone knows which to be looking at I would apreciate their advice.

As to why I have to buy one, I am currently using a Brother 1820c Phone, fax, printer combo, after being stung for the ink numerous times I decided after purchasing the last lot to do no printing in colour, I even changed my letter head to accomidate this.

Not one single item printed in colour.

None.

All the colour tanks are now empty, and it won't print a plain black document without a replacement colour catridge (or 3 in this case)

I can only attribute this to the constant cleaning cycles it loves to do.

Anyhow, Have replaced it with a laser printer, Now need a phone.

318082 2005-01-25 23:20:00 Don't get a Uniden, they have incredibly annoying background noise on them. In fact, there was a comment about this a while ago...

Yep, after some searching: Winston said in his thread about cleaning key contacts, that Uniden phones have some noise on them compared to Panasonic ones.

I noticed the same after we bought a new Uniden cordless phone, our old one being a Panasonic.

318083 2005-01-25 23:52:00 The DECT technology ones are the best in my experience.

While Uniden make them, my past experience in Uniden would preclude recommending them, but Panasonic and Doro are OK.

I run a pair of Doro DECT phones here, as well as a Panasonic 2.4 GHz portable.
The 2.4 GHz Panasonic has stunning range but low audio. The Doro DECT have adequate range (~100 m+) and good audio, plus added features of built in answerphone etc.

We have had three Uniden cordless phones now and I have not had any complaints from the family regarding background noise on them . The model we currently have is a Uniden WDECT2355 Combo Cordless Telephone Answer Machine from Tricky Dicky's which also comes in a non-answerphone model . The single-phone version, Uniden WDECT2315 Cordless Phone is currently on special for $108 until 30 January . Check out this page ( . resultspage . com/search . php?sessionid=41f6e8e207887c282740c0a87f990" target="_blank">dse . resultspage . com 748&site=&w=dect+uniden&submit . x=0&submit . y=0) for the models .

We are very happy with this phone - like most DECT phones it has lots of handy features similar to cell phones, eg different ring tones, caller display, speakerphone, etc . You can also get extra handsets for it if required .

Remember, if you get it from Tricky Dicky and don't like it you can always return it . :)

318086 2005-01-26 01:57:00 I'd recommend this one (www.dse.co.nz) if you don't need answer phone and the flashy rest ~sy~ (95)

318088 2005-01-26 03:01:00 In defence of Uniden we had a bad trot with cordless phones till we got a Uniden 2.4 GHz DSS phone which is excellent. Probably not what you are looking for Metla as one of our criteria was a clear signal over a long distance (500m) which is not a priority for you. Dally (6292)
318089 2005-01-26 03:10:00 I would also recommend the Uniden WDECT2315 Cordless Phone. I have had mine for 9 months now and have had no worries with it, even when wandering round 20 - 30 metres from the base unit. Just for the record, this phone replaces my panasonic cordless which was a noisy bugger!!!! donna (1667)
318090 2005-01-26 03:35:00 I think we can safely say Panasonic is the way to go. Cicero (40)
