Nice work.

And America travelling all the way around the world to attack a country it had no business meddling in was an act of compassion.

More like a grudge i would say.

Very well, your stand is noted. As for me, I would not assume/demand payment in kind before I act to relieve people of oppression. Similarly, I no longer assume that all people understand the concept of human compassion.

Perhaps those who think the US is acting out of altruism and the goodness of its heart, really should take the time, 3 hours, to watch/read the BBC programs that manicminer quoted:

There was a lot that was new to me, there was a lot that I already knew in a disjointed fashion, but these programs linked it all together, especially the Regan years and the rise of the christian fundamentalists.

What especially interested me was this, quoted from Part 1 about the CIA in Egypt:

"And in 1952, the Brotherhood supported the revolution led by General Nasser that overthrew the last remnants of British rule. But Nasser very quickly made it clear that the new Egypt was going to be a secular society that emulated Western morals. He quickly forged an alliance with America. And the CIA came to Egypt to organize security agencies for the new regime."

For those that remember the invasion of Suez by the Brits, French and Israel in 1956, following Nassers nationalisation of the Suez Canal, there was a great ideological division in the UK.
In those days I was a flag waving "Empire Loyalist", brought up on Chums Annual. To me, Aneurin Bevin's speeches at Hyde Park condemning the British action was treasonous.

I could not understand how Britain so meekly kow-tow'd to the Americans when they told us to quit and pull out.

Also of course the Suez crisis overshadowed the poor Hungarians who were crying for the West to come to their aid.

Now we learn the CIA had it's dirty hands in there too and were hand in glove with Nasser.
Of course, "The British Empire" was absolute anathema to the US, and they did everything in it's power to speed up the dissolution, and which for good or evil, also resulted in petty dictatorships in many places instead of "democracy".

Yes, we all earnestly wish it wasn't the American who are putting their hands up for this task . After all, the monster that was Saddam only survived so long becuase of the support of the Americans . They did something just as corrupt to Iran, now one of the troika in the axis of evil . They, and the Russians, have had their hands in more trouble-spots than anyone will ever enumerate, across most of the worlds continents .

And not the British either - their hands are just as dirty in Iraq as they "created" the country . They too have oil-based interests in the region . They also were guilty of the WMD lie - much more so because Blair had the greatest opportunity to expose the lie, but did not .

The French, Chinese and Russians sold and loaned a lot of money and weapons to Saddam . They have been spreading rumours about American/British/Australian business interests in Iraq, despite having exactly the same interests there .

The Germans, Swedes, Dutch, Japanese have sold armaments and weapons-technology to Saddam, and had been doing so for many years .

The UN, and the European Union as a whole need to form a commitee to form another committee to decide whether forming a committee is necessary . So we can forget them . The UN itself is embroiled in an oil-for-money scandal in Iraq, and have always half-heartedly tried to pressure Saddam into being nice to his people and to his neighbours . These people are the epitome of USELESS .

So who is left? If no one is left, does this mean that nothing should be done?

320289 2005-02-03 07:27:00 Perhaps at the end of the day it all goes to show there is no hope for the human race.

I'll stick to my dogs

So, you find out that your God doesn't care anymore, maybe you've decided God doesn't exist  Ok, lets give the Devil a crack then, we gotta have somthing.

I'm fast coming to the conclusion that we, the UN, EU, Commonwealth, whatever, should only provide humanaterian aid, infrastructure, etc, to those that want it, show a willingness to try, and at the first hint of trouble your outa there. The rest should be left to their own devices while militatry intervention should be totally out the door.

Unfortuantely little things like trade will get in the way of that idea, here's hoping though.

320293 2005-02-03 08:39:00 A legend is a rank over and above nearly everything else, including champion.

Very very few reach legendary status.

That is all.
