639609 2008-02-12 03:40:00 Hmm on the Opera forum site, it says to press ctrl-F12 / advanced / tabs .

Tick allow windows with no tab to disable default blank tab?

Sounds back to front to me !

Tick that and try the link again .

Altho, I made Opera the default browser, and sent myself an email with a link in it, with OE and Outlook (the above option is unticked), and it worked . No - that didn't work either . I've been running Opera 9 . 25 since it came out, and haven't touched that checkbox before and everything was hunky-dory .

Don't know whether it's relevant but the helptext when I hover over the link says "blocked:: outbind://144/[INSERTWEBADDRESSHERE]" . .

Might have to resort to Wainuitech's bigger hammer advice!!

639610 2008-02-12 03:57:00 Try this - Open IE click tools/Internet Options or go through Control Panel Internet Options, Select the Programs Tab, make IE the default Browser As Shown Here (www.imagef1.net.nz) close all browsers, then try your mail. If it opens in IE thats working as its meant to.

You can then go back to Opera, and make it your default browser. Try the mail again and hopefully it will open in Opera.

Sometimes patches change certain things and settings need to be set back to MS defaults.

XP doesn't seem to want to change back to IE as a default browser (maybe it knows what's best for it) - and that's with a machine restart after changing the default....

639611 2008-02-12 04:13:00 Hmmm Tricky blighter then OK download ( RIGHT CLICK THE LINK / SAVE AS) This here (windowsxp.mvps.org) Its a reg file, double click it ( with browsers closed) and it resets the Browser - or should, it rewrites the reg files for IE.Note: Single left clicking the link ABOVE only opens it.

PS: just tried it and it worked OK.

The link was from This site (windowsxp.mvps.org) - Lots of helpful articles there as well.

639612 2008-02-12 19:44:00 This IS an interesting one .

Finally got things sorted (didn't have to use your reg file, Wainuitech - thanks anyway) .

It seems the only issue left is when clcking on a raw link (not prefaced by an 'http://") I get the blank tab . Otherwise all OK now, thanks .
