Thomas, I presume that your talking about Linux, for Windows doesn't equate to to anything faster than a clapped out Morris Minor 850 side valve.....hmmm... towing an Oxford

319425 2005-01-31 22:52:00 As for cars, you can get into almost any make/model, turn the key, and drive off. Do you have to learn lots about the operating system of the car ? Indeed no.Can you sit at any internet connected computer and get your e-mail and browse the net? Most people can, regardless of platform it wouldn't take you long to find a browser.

Just like getting in a european car it doesn't take long to find the indicator control on the opposite side of the steering column.

That said, just like computers, most people when faced with a car that won't start or has broken down can't pop the hood and fix it.

Your analogy is horribly flawed.

319426 2005-01-31 22:54:00 He is referring to the hardware, Macs being underpowered and under performing, not to mention over priced, and being far from the holy grail of computing that Mac lovers proclaim them to be.

As for Linux vs XP,they use the same hardware, and from experience in the past an intensive video encoding process took the same amount of time under linux as it did under Windows.

Thank you Met.I couldn't have said it better myself.

These Morris Oxford people do get jealous. ;)

319428 2005-02-01 00:04:00 Jokes time. There is this very old one now, it refers to Win95, and if GM built cars like Microsoft made software:

www.ahajokes.com

And this one I found a tad funny too, if cars were like windows:

www.mcpmag.com

Computers have been promoted as user friendly, and it's been a big con-trick.

No doubt 747 pilots find their job routine, as maybe do brain surgeons.

319429 2005-02-01 00:20:00 Of course they're not - the very existence of this forum proves the point.

Why do I think that the majority of problems on referred here are related to getting the things to work and not about the work they are expected to do?

319430 2005-02-01 00:21:00 Because its a technical help forum? Metla (12)

Which Linux Met's

Actually there wasn't too much wrong with a Morrie Minor with twin Strombergs, a bit of a cam, extractors, blue meanie and fats . They could get up enough speed to roll with the best Prefect or A30

319432 2005-02-01 01:11:00 Which linux?

To be honest I do not know, All comunication was done via Instant messaging and only came about from heated discussion on a Video Editing forum.

Perhaps somebody with a dual boot system here could replicate the experiment and give us a result?

(provided of course their install of XP is set up to be mean and lean)
