639613 2008-02-12 01:06:00 I have a problem. I have windows 98 disk and the code. I try to load it to the clean computer. It keeps asking for 3.5 disks. Are those just blank ones? lol its acutally hard to find those anymore... jjmounds (13395)
639614 2008-02-12 01:11:00 You need to set the BIOS to boot off the CD drive first.
Then boot off the Windows CD and go from there.

639615 2008-02-12 08:14:00 Win 98 cd's generally do not boot (like XP does), though some proprietary OEM versions may do (Dell etc), you'll need a boot floppy probably ;)
That's what the computer is asking for (3.5 inch floppy boot disk), jjmounds.
Go here if you dont have it, and download what you need

Wrong.

639617 2008-02-12 20:48:00 Wrong.

Right^

It won't format the drive for you, you'll want a floppy with fdisk on it for that, but it will definitely boot, and install Windows.

You'll need to check the boot order in the BIOS though, make sure the CD drive is before the HDD.

It will.

639619 2008-02-12 22:34:00 Simple enough.

Boot Floppy Required with fdisk and format to Partition and Format.
Change BIOS to Boot CD
Then Install from CD.

where is the "format" option on 98?

From memory, I always had to format from dos (floppy boot disc) for the old 98

639621 2008-02-12 23:20:00 It will automatically format a BLANK disk. If the disk isn't blank, you need to choose the option to boot to a dos commandline (rather than windows setup) and use the 'format' command. Then reboot and start windows setup. Erayd (23)
639622 2008-02-13 04:04:00 Win98SE boot disk

FDisk on there.

Once Win98SE loaded, Format is in the C:\Windows\Command directory
