639968 2008-02-13 20:17:00 I am using slingshot's beginners plan which is good except after 6 pm when it slows down to like dial-up now I was running the speed test at www.speedtest.net and I noticed that from Wellington it was full speed but when I tested it from the server in Auckland it was really slow. zarx (13402)
639969 2008-02-13 20:31:00 That's quite normal since it's peak hours around then. You could take your chances ringing up your ISP's help desk but good luck with that. jason_f90 (3544)
639970 2008-02-13 20:32:00 Thats the reason most people have finished with slingshot. Slowly turning into Telecom part 2. Scarey. :horrified rob_on_guitar (4196)
639971 2008-02-18 09:05:00 So who's the best ISP for broadband these days?

I'm with Slingshot (phone and internet) and have been having really bad download speeds since before Xmas.

I think it's actually getting worse too. I just tried to down load a 2 minute video from youtube and gave up on it... even dial-up has better download speed then what I have now.

speed test shows current speed of 31.9kb/second download speed

639972 2008-02-18 09:08:00 Xnet, if you can get it. Speedy Gonzales (78)
639973 2008-02-18 10:57:00 I'm also with slingshot in Auckland, And am getting fed up with them. They told me there was nothing wrong on their end of the network, and that it must have been my modem. I hope slingshot realizes that their customers are not happy. LXXXVIII (6863)
639974 2008-02-18 11:55:00 you think they actually care? KiwiTek (12922)

I can tell you that the problem with internet speeds is very likely to be at slingshots end, and I don't think anyone here recommends them. They always blamed telecom when I was with them, for their problems. However since I switched from Slingshot last year, to Xnet, I haven't had a single problem, yet when I was with slingshot, I was getting constant disconnections, slow internet in peak times, and had days of no service, which they blamed telecom for, and didn't compensate me for the outages. Slingshot also never reply to their emails, and they censor their online forum and remove users on their forum that critise their service.

If you are questioning their service, then you should look at switching. I think even telecoms xtra provides a better service, at least xtra reply to emails, and I have always found them helpful.
