640851 2008-02-16 21:52:00 It'll be that proxy entry in the log. Speedy Gonzales (78)
640852 2008-02-16 23:17:00 yep I think so too Speedy - as Safari pointed out, and what WT suggested in the other thread feersumendjinn linked to

..... internet options settings in the control panel,
Connection Tab, Lan Settings - make sure "use Proxy server" is UNTICKED.

640853 2008-02-17 01:09:00 Hi everybody I am still struggling with this problem

I have double checked the lan settings, the proxy server is not ticked, and I have removed the ghost entry proxy xnet port 88

I ran the event viewer as wainuitech suggested and came across this message
Description:
Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 000Dxxxxxxxx . The following error occured:
The semaphore timeout period has expired . . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server .

what does this mean?

and another one that says that the computer has auto config the ip address for the network card with network address xxxxxxxxxxx and gives an ip address being used

and one that says that the server did not register with DCOM within the required timeout

also one that says that the could not bind with transport device \netbt_Tcicp
and a whle lot of numbers and letters

Make any sense????

640854 2008-02-17 01:29:00 What that message is basically saying is when the Router is trying to renew/check the IP address for some reason its failing - resulting in lose in internet - BUT usually that would mean all sites, not just http.

You may have a damaged TCP/IP stack - thats the main protocol for the internet connection. Try downloading Wisockfix (www.snapfiles.com) - run it and it will rebuild your TCP/IP settings/ stack.

Never had it cause any faults - but sometimes it also wont fix the problem either esp if this may or may not be the cause- but wont hurt to try.

If you are interested - here (dictionary.zdnet.com) is a graphical view/description of the TCP/IP stack - any one of the 7 layers fail or are faulty can knock out the internet/network.

640855 2008-02-17 01:53:00 thanks I will try winsock fix and see what happens Willem1 (13415)
640856 2008-02-17 02:15:00 no that did not fix the problem. i have downloaded process and port analyzer
to see what activity is going on over port 80. When i connect to the internet with firefox 2 entries go out over port 80 both firefox.exe but to 2 different remote IP's should this be?

640857 2008-02-17 02:21:00 If Zonealarm isnt installed and that entry is still in that log, tick it to remove it.

Then delete its folders

640858 2008-02-17 02:23:00 Are you connecting Via a Router / Lan or a single Modem ?

Out of interest - when you are connected, click start/run type in CMD in the box type in ipconfig Press Enter - note the Ip address and gateway.

When it drops the connection repeat - see if theres any difference.

Even if you get the exact same address - type in ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Press Enter - NOTE: the xxx is the gateway you wrote down before - let us know what happens.
