640415 2008-02-14 22:33:00 Is it possible to use onboard IDE controller + an extra card for more ports without resource conflict?

OS is Windows XP Pro.

I have some old ISA cards with IDE, but I think they are programmed for IRQ 14/15 which the onboard IDE has to use, so I don't think it's possible with those.

Would a PCI card work, on a different IRQ? or do these also use 14/15?

640416 2008-02-14 22:46:00 Should work, windows should automatically assign a Different IRQ, if it doesn't and there is a conflict go in and manually tell it to assign a different one. wainuitech (129)
640417 2008-02-15 01:25:00 it can work, I have added a card with 2 sata & 1 IDE ports to a board with 4 onboard sata & 2 onboard ide to give a total of 6 sata & 3 ide ports with no problems.

I don't know if the cards you have will work, but give it a try - nothing to lose. Worst case, the pc won't be able to find a boot device and you'll have to shut it down and remove the card.

The more hardware in your system the more chance you will run into conflicts of course
