641908 2008-02-19 04:54:00 hi there,
just reinstalled ubuntu on my new system and found that after running my modems internet setup wizard nothing happened when i open FF. I looked on nvidia and they dont hav any drivers for linux 32 or 64 bit OSes, i had to install the nvidia chipset drivers on windows xp before internet would work, but i was wondering whether there is anyway to force ethernet/modem to work on ubuntu 7.10. Any help will be appreciated, i'm sick of XP and IE,
Cheers, AMDx3

641909 2008-02-19 05:02:00 Check you have put in the gateway (modem) IP correctly. Is your modem set to use DHCP?

What happens if you put 66.249.93.104 into the address bar of Firefox? (Google NZ's IP address).

What chipset does your nVidia ethernet controller use?

i entered the same gateway that telecom gave me when i first connected and yes it does support DHCP but i'm not sure if it is 'using' it.

641911 2008-02-19 06:01:00 entering Google NZ IP address works but after searching and clicking on a link nothing happens, the internet just stalls... AMD3ALL3THE3WAY3 (116)
641912 2008-02-19 06:10:00 It appears you haven't entered your Domain Name Server (DNS) settings for Xtra. Go back to where you set up your ethernet settings and make sure you have:

Primary DNS Settings: 202.27.158.40
Secondary DNS Settings: 202.27.156.72

If you are sure your modem is set to use DHCP (check that under your modem web interface), then select to use DHCP in the network setup in Ubuntu.

I don't use Ubuntu so cannot give you more specific directions on where to put these settings, but if you get stuck just ask and I will see if I can dig up some graphical user guides for you.
