2005-02-11 19:54:00 | Well, in this case it's more why do Mac using journos write pointless "hey, Macs should rule the world" editorial pieces. I don't think it is pointless if it makes people think and there is no suggestion that "Macs should rule the world" - would hate to see that happen. Some people don't even realize there are alternate web browsers and email programs apart from IE and OE and this forum is full of people asking how to remove viruses, trojans, worms, dialers and spyware and they are not aware that there are other operating systems they can use which don't have these problems. I don't expect any positive comment from the experts on this forum who are obviously able to cope with Windows problems themselves but for less experienced computer users it is something to think about and to consider the original question as to why when they don't have to suffer. It is a reasonable question, is there a reasonable answer. Why do PC users put up with so many viruses and worms.

2005-02-11 20:03:00 | Did you ever stop to think that maybe if everyone started using Macs then all of a sudden macs would be subject to all the viruses and spyware? The PC platform has more viruses and spyware written for it simply because there is a greater audience. No operating system or browser is 100% secure, get over it.

2005-02-11 20:06:00 | Safari: Here are a few more reasonable questions I'd like you to answer before I answer your ones. Why do you put up with the Telecom monopoly? Why do you put up with Overpriced apple hardware/software? Why do you pay your taxes? Why do you put up with pollution? Why do you put up with world hunger? What do all these questions have in common? That's right, the answer is "Because it's there!" There will always be spyware, because programs are coded by humans. To err is human. Therefore, no computer program will ever be perfect. Not even Mas OS is perfect. Another question to see if you can answer. If Windows is so terrible, why does 95% use it if there are "Superior" products available?

The PC platform has more viruses and spyware written for it simply because there is a greater audience. No operating system or browser is 100% secure, get over it. That is an old arguement with very little substance. The Mac OS architecture is much more robust, much more solid, much more difficult to hack into. Apple's software is, by default, more sound and reliable, given its more stable core. |

2005-02-11 20:40:00 | Another question to see if you can answer. If Windows is so terrible, why does 95% use it if there are "Superior" products available?People use windows because thats what everyone else uses, that's what they get, what do you mean "other options"? There ARE new comp buyers/users out there who don't even realise that there are alternatives to windows on PC. Mac users can be as bad. I know a computer-illiterate mac user who owns a mac because her brother did, therefore it is the thing to use, right? Pity after several years on the net she struggles with email. She thought for a while HTML was some kind of virus, and gave me heaps for sending it to her! New PC users get what the shop gives them, which is going to be a M$ OS, and then they can ask their friends for help, who are likely to be also using windows. I've met one newby M$ user who thought that we could not exchange email as his M$ system surely wouldn't be compatable with mine! Of course this means there is a huge pack of windows users out there, most of whom know jack about the workings of the machines, and think that anything sent to them must be safe if it came via email.. What perfect fodder for the socailly malajusted little cretins that write viri! Personally i am amased that there isn't more windows problems and spyware out there! This also answers the original question "Why do PC users put up with so many viruses and worms" *checks the wind and puts on his hard hat* Personally i run FC3 and enjoy not having cool and pointless windows trojans written just for me, and also not having to worry about such **** as anti virus programs sucking the power from my eye candy! :D

2005-02-11 20:42:00 | Meh. No matter how secure you think the Mac OS may be, if the bulk of the population was using it then the idiots with nothing better to do will write malicious code to run on it. It may be harder to hack but it is not impossible. Your "my mac OS is much more solid and harder to hack" attitude may well prove to be your downfall. | Sb0h (3744) | |
