Leaving your computer on more than necessary leads to a higher power bill which makes a bigger indent in someone's pocket (hopefully yours), which implies more power is being used. Which isn't exactly what we need.

Give your computer(s) to a friend for a month, read books instead, and see how much your power bill drops.

323829 2005-02-11 06:31:00 I doubt it would drop by any noticable amount, Only thing that sucks back the juice is a CRT,and they flick off by auto.

My power bill has been tiny since i replaced the Water system with a Hot on demand gas unit.

Well personally I blame Telecom for that. If they gave me faster flat-rate internet, instead of the pathetic narrowband speed they have the cheek to call 'broadband', then I wouldn't have to leave my PC on 24/7 to download all the stuff I want. :)

323831 2005-02-11 07:58:00 Desktop is off at night, purely because it's too noisy to be kept on. I also turn my server off because it's Windows ME (If I can get my hands on a NT based OS I'll leave it on all the time) Edward (31)
323832 2005-02-11 08:55:00 Edward, I apologise for this:

1. I do not have any friends.
2. I read around 4-5 books per week. Not all of these will match the word count from "War and Peace" or "Gone with the Wind." I admit to having read both though.
3. Computer is on 24/7.
4. I work and therefore can afford the power bill.
5. YMMV!

323835 2005-02-11 14:36:00 I simply put mine to sleep or shut down/restart if windows throws a hissy...

If I need to download stuff I leave it on overnight CRT is off, but unplug my 120mm beast of a fan... so i can.. sleep... speaking of sleep...
