641359 2008-02-18 04:34:00 So Telecom has upgraded a lot of exchanges to ADSL2. I understand this increases traffic speeds. Does ADSL2 reach further than ADSL along the old copper cables?

Some rural users are too far from the exchange to get broadband. Will ADSL2 help?

641360 2008-02-18 05:20:00 I heard that if you're more than 2Ks from the exchange, you'll hardly feel any difference between ADSL and ADSL2+. qazwsxokmijn (102)

641362 2008-02-18 09:00:00 my router shows that I'm getting around 3500 Kbps downstream when lucky
and downstream Line Attenuation is 47.1 dB right now
is it possible to use these stats to determine my distance from exchange so I can also refer to the graph too?

the internet plan I am on is suppose to give me unlimited download speed and 128 upload

No.
Theres more to it than just the distance.

641364 2008-02-19 04:21:00 There is a formula that crops up here and there on the web that says
line length(km) =attenuation divided by 13.8.

Also a chart here-
www.internode.on.net/adsl2/graph/index.htm
that may be worth a look for a ballpark figure.

Not "unlimited", just as fast as the line will allow - big difference.

641366 2008-02-19 22:57:00 My router tells me I'm on ADSL2 now, I think i've been upgraded - but haven't noticed any difference in speed. (except that connection speed is now the same as 'attainable line rate' - but download speed is exactly the same)

Mind you, I wasn't getting maximum for ADSL anyway, so it's not surprising.

641367 2008-02-21 06:03:00 I've used those formula before
but didn't come to a solid conclusion

I'm guessing since I'm only getting 3.5Mb/s speeds, I'm not going to benefit too much from ADSL2, since my line's not that great
and by unlimited, I'm just saying that my ISP shouldn't be a limiting factor

.

That makes mine .217

Its not just distance. I'm close, but speed is rubbish.
