A notice from the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) has gone up on LokiTorrent, saying a court order has grounded the site. "You can click but you can't hide," the notice re.... | 323734 | 2005-02-11 00:03:00 | Will have zero effect on my file shareing activities. Even the death of Supanova didn't so much as cause a bump. |

2005-02-11 00:33:00 | There's file sharing, then there's file sharing. I'd like to see the <insert appropriate word(s) here> shut down legit file distribution. It's only the files not the method that should be in question so by that reasoning, lets shut down http and ftp too because people distribute files on them too and they certainly aren't all legit. I guess money and power talks more in the US than elsewhere though, so anythings possible, as they say "this could happen only in..."

2005-02-11 01:32:00 | Rumour round the campfire is that Loki were offered a large stash of cash to cease operating, Hope they are now going to return the 40 grand donated in good faith for them to meet the legal challenge. www.torrent-news.com

2005-02-11 02:04:00 | Use that cash to set up another file sharing business under a different name, or donate it to other file sharing orgs. | mister harbies (5607) | |
2005-02-11 05:39:00 | Well this is all interesting news, but of course not unexpected news. At the end of the day, they shut one down, and another two pop up. Until lawsuits against individual filesharers become commonplace outside the US then they won't stop the filesharing. More to the point - I don't believe the filesharing is wrecking their profits that much. It's mainly the lawyers that are profiteering from all this. Just out of interest, I have a mate in the UK who was recently sent an email entitled "alleged copyright infringement" by their ISP. On further enquiry to the ISP, they then sent him this to show him the source of the complaint. So...if you're into downloading movies, music etc. Don't be surprised if your ISP has received an email like this. Whether they choose to forward it to you is another matter. | 323740 | 2005-02-12 02:25:00 | Bit of a shame they closed Loki. I started using that after suprnova. Anyway still a few good ones around. Been using http://www.tvtorrents.com/ at the moment. You have to register and you can only really download perhaps two 350mb episodes before your credit runs out, but I just re-sign up again. :) | E|im (87) | |
