1423595 2016-07-24 08:17:00 Hi All

Is anyone using an Open Office program like Libra or Apache? Or something else. How would you compare Open Office programs to MS Office. All I really need is a Document programme compatible with MS Word. Thanks. PJ

1423596 2016-07-24 09:24:00 I use Open Office and prefer it to Microsoft Office. Free to start with, but that aside, the spread sheet is very good, as is the word processor. They both have the advantage of being compatible with a vast array of formats. They also print direct to PDF. mzee (3324)

1423599 2016-07-24 20:36:00 The only problem I've had with free ones is sometimes the formatting doesn't work exactly right going back and forth from office both in word and excel and you need to spend a few minutes fixing it.
I've only tried Kingsoft and libre office and the older open office a few years back.

1423600 2016-07-24 22:15:00 Another free option is to use the Google ones Docs & Sheets. They both work well and are particularly useful for those who don't want to install a whole suite of office tools because of limited available space to do so. CliveM (6007)

Ultimately I want to use MS Outlook.co as in the link. I have another thread running on this but my mind is not clear enough to sort it. PJ

1423602 2016-07-24 23:16:00 I see in your other thread you have Office 03.
Why not use that.
I have two Win 10 systems here running it.

Im using Office 2000 at home, 2003 at work.
Sure there are no more security patches from MS, so what . For most thats not an issue.

Open office I thought was slow & clunky .
Libre, kingsoft etc: I'd rather use my old Office 2000 :)
The free office programs dont have an Outlook(email) equivalent.

I'd personally rate that as a big tick in favour of the free options.

Thunderbird is a free email app.
