| 1423579 | 2016-07-24 01:56:00 | Well having spent considerable time having a clean-up and removing duplicate Photos and Music along with other rubbish (see other thread) I figure now would be a good time to do a nice clean Disk Image, which in turn raises a couple of questions. Ok, Ive been running a programme called Ocster to do incremental back-ups and whilst it appears to work fine on the surface, I have never been in a position to have to restore from it. Hopefully, things will remain that way, but what Id like to know is whether these incremental Back-Up programmes delete files that you have deleted between Back-Ups or do they just add what isnt already there? Any thoughts on the process, or recommended programmes appreciated. :thanks |

Seen it plenty of time especially with Acronis, it says its backed up but when they were corrupted it was tough luck. The response from Acronis was backups should have been tested. One way to test a backup is to plug in a empty drive and try to restore. With Active@disk Image you can make a bootable CD that will put back the complete OS, Programs , data etc. I use that all the time on customers computers to backup, as most don't have any. My own backups are automatic Via a Server, and other software that copies any changes to another network drive. The really important items /data / Programs are also manually backed up to an external HDD. ( when I can be bothered) :p As for Ocster , looking at their site --- Ocster Backup is now Ashampoo Backup. They don't exactly give much in the way of information as to how and what it changes, some backup software will replicate removing previous items, others wont. That's what the backup software/Server I use does, you have options as to what version you can put back. You should be able to mount/open the backups and see whats changed. |
