| 1421029 | 2016-05-26 11:15:00 | Had to deal with two rather ignorant people today, first one could not see anything wrong with having Norton AV on their computer, even after I explained why they should not have it..... Second one said there is a free version of Adobe Photoshop you can download, and sent a link to someone.... She was trying to help. www.youtube.com Huh? Turns out the person she was trying to help just wanted to crop a photo and save it. I showed them how to use Paint to do it ..... They were really happy with that. Took me just two minutes....... Other person insists that there is definitely a free version of Adobe Photshop out there. LL |

But honestly that is so long ago it has no relevance today. If you have recent experience with Nortons as in with this years product and/or know it to be bad or cause problems then fair enough, but if you haven't you run the risk of basing your argument on ignorance yourself. I mention this because I find people hang on to negative experiences for a very long time and don't revise them when manufacturers make improvements or fix products. I have a low opinion of it myself, but I wouldn't call someone ignorant for using it without doing a bit of reading first to see what current opinions are. Recent reviews would tend to indicate it is a lot better than it used to be, it came 3rd after eset in this one for example www.pcantivirusreviews.com As for the Adobe thing, seems pretty dodgy but even if it is true it's total overkill just to crop a photo as you showed them. There are tons of free programs that can crop a photo easily without the daunting array of options photoshop gives you. But to address the title of the thread, you offer the information and they either accept it or they don't. No point beating your head against a brick wall. You could show or link to some supporting evidence if you are really determined. We all of us can be guilty of sticking to our opinions in the face of conflicting evidence at times though. |

| 1421032 | 2016-05-26 20:45:00 | Norton came third  Maybe they didn't pay the testers high enough this time and the others did ;) As for the free Photoshop ----- yeahhhhhhhh Free to download maybe, but thats not the same as free to have. I have noticed on Some Windows 10 there is a Adobe photo App on the start menu, but never used it or dont know if its free ? |

| 1421033 | 2016-05-26 21:21:00 | I think there is a legitimate and free copy of Photoshop CS2 on the net. I seem to remember seeing it at one stage (when I was using CS5 at the time). So no use to me personally. | R.M. (561) | ||

You can't. It's like arguing with a rock. You have to let them find out the hard way. A couple of years ago I had a woman who wanted help learning her PC. I asked what O/S she had and she said Win10, her son - a bigwig in IT - had put it on for her. I suggested it was probably Win8, no way, I was an idiot, knew nothing, goodbye. |

I just love expert IT family members, especially teenage grandsons. If they're so great why have you called me! ;) |

| 1421037 | 2016-05-26 23:22:00 | . . . If you have recent experience with Nortons as in with this years product and/or know it to be bad or cause problems then fair enough, but if you haven't you run the risk of basing your argument on ignorance yourself . Recent reviews would tend to indicate it is a lot better than it used to be, it came 3rd after eset in this one for example . pcantivirusreviews . com/Reviews/Symantec/Norton-Antivirus-Software/" target="_blank">www . pcantivirusreviews . com . . . . Nortons has pretty much allways had excellent reviews, even when it was at its most bloated, most unreliable, most resource hogging worst . I remember one PC mag allways giving it good reviews , yet one of the mags review staff publicly slammed it "I would never install a program that cant be easily removed" Ive stopped trying to argue with people about Nortons, I give my opinion (take it off if you are having PC issues or slowdowns) , but have stopped trying to convince those determined to keep it . Just because you paid for it is no reason to keep using it :) Nortons doesnt seem as bad as it once was , perhaps thats because machines are faster or maybe because less are using it now so of course we then see less issues with it . I do have issues with all the AV programs that make it so hard to find the AV logs . If you have to google how to find the AV logs then theres a serious issue with the design: more flash than substance . Its a shame as Nortons products were once very very good, incl the AV . Long time ago though . |
