| 1420714 | 2016-05-19 22:42:00 | The rego fees change on July 1 - nearly all coming down - woohoo! I'm caught in a bit of a bind. My registration ends on Jun 30. When you re-register, does the period go from the date of the application or the date of the end of the period? In other words do I need to re-register after Jun 30 and run the risk of being caught with an unregistered car, or can I do it it ahead of time and still pay the new fees? |

| 1420715 | 2016-05-19 22:47:00 | OK, I've found the answer. The rego is valid until midnight on 30 June, and if I renew during June I'll be charged the new fees. I actually found someone helpful at NZTA. | Tony (4941) | ||
| 1420716 | 2016-05-19 23:03:00 | Just went and redone mine today. It expired today, and since I use the car daily, I don't really want it unregistered. Be just my luck to have a prang and the insurance refuse to payout because its unregistered. I was asked if I only wanted to register it for a month, so then I'd get the lower rates --- Not really worth the hassle, its only $138 for a full year anyway. Just something else to remember next month :) SWMBO will be happy hers didn't really get a price drop by much last time, as her car is one that all the fuss is about with the NZTA fees. The safety rating they use are years out of date. |

When it was last going to drop in price, we had to register about 8 months out to hit the 1 july. By asking you were able to specify the time. Do it on-line and you just nominate 1 - 12 months. Last time I re-registered was in April, and I nominated 2 months (May and June). July 1 it's due again, and at the lower price. |
