1420470 2016-05-14 05:23:00 Sunday last I was having some chest discomfort - nothing that I could say was a real problem, just a bother .

The next Morning, Monday, I was running my diminished scales on my bass guitar for practice, and it felt like I had a 1" (24 . 9mm ?) paddle bit ( . irwin . com/uploads/products/large/standard-length-spade-bits-399 . jpg" target="_blank">www . irwin . com) being augured into my sternum .

I put my bass into it's rack, turned off the amplifier and fell to the floor writhing in excruciating pain .

An ambulance ride to the hospital and they said my pulse was 22-25 BPM, and pressure was 30/18mm Hg or so . (NZ= 4/2 . 4 kPa I think) .

It was found that a medication I'm taking for my a-fib (Metric = I have no idea) was suppressing my pulse and pressure too . I have purple-black toes, black-purple fingernails and ruptured blood vessels in my left eye .

So now - I'm off the metopralol* for good, even if my heart hits 200 bpm .

*
metoprolol tartrate (NZ= Lopressor) for: Atrial Fibrillation/Flutter or Supraventricular Tachycardia (Off-label)

2 . 5-5 mg IV q2-5min; not to exceed 15 mg over 10-15 minutes; maintenance: 25-100 mg PO q12hr

So-o-o-o --- that's how my week went - how wuz youse guyses'?

1420471 2016-05-14 05:42:00 Mine week was fine.

Don't piss around or take any chances as far as your heart is concerned.

If you feel pain, like real bad heartburn, call 111 immediately.

Take care - we only live once :)

Get well soon, Joe. Although it would be better if he calls 911 immediately.

1420473 2016-05-14 05:58:00 Yeah - it was super scary . I've 'tanked' in the ER when they gave me a nitro pill which also suppressed my BP and pulse .

That not only scared me - it hurt like HELL!

Trying to get my INR stable again - do youse guys know what that is?

My INR was 3 . 8 (too high) before the 'attack' and at release from THE hospital, it was 2 . 1 (too low) .

Yeah - 9 1 1 is our number .

1420474 2016-05-14 06:08:00 Have you ever been on Amiodarone (Cordarone) Joe?

If you haven't it may pay to mention it to your doctor.

It can be quite toxic with some people, so it has to be monitored carefully, but it does a better job than Metoprolol for A/F.

Just a thought from Upside-down Land :D

PS What dosage of Metoprolol were you on?

1420475 2016-05-14 06:24:00 The Metropolol was 2 . 5mg BID .

I'm gonna Google that Amiodarone and see what it is in the US . Thanks for the info .

Checking it now I find that I had Atrial Fibrillation, not Ventricular arrhythmia for which Amiodarone is used, so it may be a cross-up medication .

US Brand Name

Cordarone
Pacerone

Descriptions

Amiodarone is used to treat life-threatening heart rhythm problems called ventricular arrhythmias . This medicine is used in patients who have already been treated with other medicines that did not work .

I know that the Lyrica I take is important though, (for my peripheral neuropathy) and I have to be aware of any interactions that might occur too .

1420476 2016-05-14 06:47:00  my son is on Metroprolol! Since his bypass three years ago . From what I know, it is a beta blocker given for blood pressure .

Hope you are ok Joe, (glad you didn't bust the bass when you hit the floor) . Take care mate, LL . :)

1420477 2016-05-14 07:02:00 You gotta watch what music you play at your age Joe. "Stairway to Heaven" is not a great one. Perhaps Ronnie Milsap's " We'll take the long way round the World" would be better?
Joking aside, hang in there buddy!!

Interesting Joe .

in Upside Down Land 23 . 75mg Metoprolol is considered low . :D I think the brother-in-law is on 200mg

And Amiodarone is the Goto drug for A/F as well as other arrhythmias .

7208

However, the Lyrica may well change the whole equation .

Who the hell would want to be a doctor? :D

1420479 2016-05-14 13:44:00 The problem with being a doctor as I see it is that although you've only got two models - male and female (OK, there may be exceptions to this) - to work with, there are too many independent and personal reactions to medications for it to become a 100% (NZ = a whole lot) - pure mechanical science .

That's why medicine is called a 'practice' 'cause they still haven't got it right yet .

. . . . and yeah --- I may have misplaced a decimal on that dosage too . It's all these sillimeters v King's Nose adjustments I have to make for youse guys .

Let's say it was less than the King's Snootfull .
