1420328 2016-05-11 03:38:00 Haha yes I've installed many of those. Not a big fan of having the product key on the card rather than as a sticker, but I guess as it activates from the hardware in the PC now, it doesn't really matter.

If you have a nice new PC with a SSD and USB3, man does it install quickly though.

1420329 2016-05-11 04:41:00 Yeah I purchased the retail version on USB for my current PC last August and am very happy with how quickly it installs.
I use that USB drive for all my machines now instead of the burnt DVD I created when upgrading them from 8.1

I've always purchased the OEM in the past but the cost difference wasn't huge, I wanted the USB and it wasn't an option on OEM that I could see at the time, and I thought I might actually want to transfer to another PC one day (I never have, I always sell the OS with the old PC and get a new copy)

Personally I prefer the card, easier to read and as I am constantly rebuilding my Machines I never removed the sticker from the original packaging anyway.

When was the last time you bought a new PC with a DVD/CD drive. Let alone bought the media?

1420331 2016-05-12 06:28:00 When was the last time you bought a new PC with a DVD/CD drive. Let alone bought the media? Just finished building one about an hour ago, the guy wanted 2 DVD drives, so I put in Two drives. The majority of Laptops have them.

Last OEM W10 Media was roughly April for 5 builds, a few builds in march, all wanted DVD drives as they have media that needs a DVD or CD drive. MANY people still have and use software that require optical drives.

Certainly a LOT easier to put one in. So the Question, say you have a Program on CD/DVD and no drive- how do you install it ? You cant convert it to a ISO and mount it - No Drive.

1420332 2016-05-12 07:03:00 I still have an optical drive in this PC, comes in handy now and again and it's a cheap component. This is a blu-ray reader so I can watch my movies as well.
Just last week I installed one of my old games for a bit of retro fun.

Next build on though I'm getting an external drive and not building it in.

90% the new PC's we've sold recently have had DVD drives. Those without were just customers literally trying to save a few $ .
About 1/2 the laptops we sold had them

It often easier to get a system to boot from DVD than USB , when trying to repair/diag etc.
And alot easier to make a bootable repair/image/recover/nonMS DVD than the same bootable USB
