| 1421049 | 2016-05-29 03:43:00 | How many of you that dislike Nortons have actually used it personally in the last year? I suspect very few. Maybe it's terrible, maybe it isn't, but if it's causing someone no obvious grief and they are happy with it I don't see the issue. Just tell them that it has a bad reputation and let them decide for themselves. Many of us just stick with Defender and I know how little most of you think of that, but here I am still not having paid for an anti-virus since DOS days and no major dramas. I have been planing to go for NOD32 for a couple years now but never get around to it because without a PC issue there's little motivation, I suspect that's how many Norton users feel as well. | dugimodo (138) | ||
| 1421050 | 2016-05-29 10:24:00 | I actually have learned from experience that if someone insists on having either Norton or McAfee on their computer, then that is their decision entirely. I can only recommend that they get a better one, however they also argue that the current one is "really good" because it finds nothing wrong.... Not my problem from then on, until I get a call saying they think they have a virus or Trojan on their computer, then they want my advice on how to fix it and why didn't their AV protect them... Blah blah.... Oh well, people will be people. LL |

When I was doing repairs, I'd see them on peoples infected machines, quite happily reporting no issues. I don't know that it hasn't improved but I doubt it. |

| 1421052 | 2016-05-29 22:17:00 | But if these inadequate Virus software are mass loaded on PC's, who to blame for that? All very well for tech savvy people such as us to deride novice users that use them. Are not the PC/Operating System suppliers ignorant to load them on? Perhaps operator suppliers (MS) should ensure/control reputable AV products are included with the hardware/PC... Thats just it. None of them give a rats arse. It would be easy for MS to make a rule that major manufacturers must NOT preload 30day AV demos (just say if you do that you cant put a WIN sticker on it , or say its Win compatible) . The fact the these 30day demo disable the free MS AV & free MS firewall makes it even worse. For one line of Demo AV , the MS firewall wouldnt re-enable once the demo McAffee was was removed (it was fixable , but thats not the point) Its not MS's fault, but it would be nice if they drew a line in sand & said, no more . the fact the they stop working after 30days is a disgrace, so many non-tech savvy users simple dont notice. |

| 1421053 | 2016-05-29 22:24:00 | I don't know that it hasn't improved but I doubt it. That's my whole point. I'm not trying to say Norton's is any good or convince anyone to use it. I'm just saying calling other people ignorant for using it is maybe a bit unjust if you have no current experience with it. (Define ignorance for me again?) If Wainui has recent experience with it and says it's still crap I'll gladly repeat that as gospel but I won't do the same for someone who's basing it on out of date information. |

I'll say its not as bad as it once was .But that may just be the changing face of malware rather than Norton getting better . It does SEEM more fluff than substance with its user interface. One of Nortons big issues used to be its effect on PC's . As for real world detection (or lack of), we get in more infected PC's that have the AV thats so popular on this forum . But thats only because we sell that 'good' AV & many of our clients have it. New Malware gets past everything, allways has , allways will. |

| 1421055 | 2016-05-30 02:25:00 | Heaps of people plod on with their expired trial, one I looked at had been expired for over 12 months! McAfee is also free for Xtra customers, so I see that installed a lot more these days. |

I don't know that it hasn't improved but I doubt it. Lately the Type of Norton problems have been due it breaking and stopping the computers from booting normally, or stopping the internet completely. Once removed most of the time the internet comes back, and usually find some infections as well, mostly PUPS, but the occasional "nasty". |
