1423531 2016-07-24 08:12:00 Going to have to leave this for a day or two. I have deleted the MS Office 2003. I still have the CD if I need it. I am going round in circles. PJ Poppa John (284)
1423532 2016-07-24 09:30:00 Why not use Gmail? This way you can access your mail with any browser, you don't get all the mail on your computer unless you download it. Gmail will also handle other mail accounts besides Gmail. mzee (3324)

+1

This is the best way to go IMHO for the reasons quoted.

1423534 2016-07-24 23:39:00 This is for MS Outlook.com, the one we are being encouraged to use after the end of this month, when Windows Live Mail is discontinued. PJ

Are you are mixing up the email client & the email hosting service.

www.theguardian.com
Windows Live Mail 2012 will not stop working, and you can still use it to download emails from any standard email service.

"However, Microsoft is moving all its own email services – Office 365, Hotmail, Live Mail, MSN Mail, Outlook.com etc – to a single codebase at Outlook.com. "
OK ,we can work around that

"Windows Live Mail 2012 does not support the new APIs (applications programming interfaces) required to provide full synchronisation with Outlook.com"
So use pop3

You should be able to use old school pop3 email , with both Windows Live & Outlook.com
down towards the bottom: pop3 setup
support.office.com

and , down the bottom of this page
www.theguardian.com

"Sticking with Windows Live Mail
Windows Live Mail 2012 is clearly on the way out, but you can still use it if you really want to. To do this, you must create a new account for your existing email address, but check the box that says “Manually configure server settings”. For the incoming server, select IMAP with the address imap-mail.outlook.com and Port 993. For the outgoing server, use smtp-mail.outlook.com and Port 587."

:)
I would like to get MS Outlook . com & ditch Live Mail . I have never liked it . Of all the ones I have used I liked Outlook Express the best followed by the Version in MS Office 2003 . I have removed 2003 but that has left me without Word, which I prefer to Wordnote? & its mate Wordpad? That is the reason I started the other thread on Office . It is impossible for me to buy a copy of MS Office . As you may be aware my wife, Maryann, is in Hospice Hospital with terminal cancer & because of that I had to go into this Rest Home, where my income is $43 a week . So no expensive MS stuff . I am trying to cut my cloth etc .

This is not a sob story or a bludging post & I don't need pity . Just help that doesn't cost any members any money . Ok with that?

This computer is extremely important to me, mainly for the e mailing to the UK & others . So whatever I do has to be compatible with other things . It is my lifeline to the " Outside " (very dramatic!) PJ

confused: me :)

Yes, MS made it confusing by using the same name for completely different products . More than once, its becoming a confusing habit with MS :waughh:
outlook . com : cloud email service
outlook : the program on your pc (if you have it)
Live : its more than 1 completely different thing (win live, live MS login etc arnt the same)

What version of Office2003 do you have . It may have outlook2003 (unless its a student/home version)
I dont like the newer live mail program either

Lets start at the beginning .
Are you using live mail as the email program on the PC ? You can keep using it regardless, you just need to change some settings .
who are you using for email, is it @hotmail @xtra . co . nz or something else

You could use Thunderbird for the email program . It has a simple, old school look & feel to it .

Sorry to take so long answering .Yes...Live Mail. ISP is xtra.co.nz. I have d/l Thunderbird & am playing with it. I do wonder about trying Office 2003 for just the emails, again, although at that time I was using Outlook Express. I will sleep on that one. PJ
