| 1423661 | 2016-07-25 23:45:00 | Hi All. Just curiosity really. A)How does Lenovo stack up against Toshiba & Asus, brand wise, quality etc. B)1TB hard drive V SSD. How much SSD = 1TB. It seems to be coming more popular now, does that mean it is good/better quality than it was? SSD would take up less room than a big clunky 1TB drive wouldn't it? Thanks PJ |

But not sure what you're asking with regards to the 1TB hdd, 1TB = 1TB ? price wise the SSD will cost more but capacity wise they are measured the same. They also tend to be the same physical size regardless of capacity. All laptop drives are 2.5" and either 7 or 9 mm thick. The exception being M.2. SSDs which are physically much smaller and need a dedicated M.2 connector on the motherboard. An SSD is a lot faster and becoming more affordable, that's why they are gaining popularity. The theoretical lifespans are still lower than mechanical hdd's but realistically will still outlast the machines the come in for any regular use (faulty units excepted). The user experience with an SSD is just better than a hard drive, this is most obvious once you are used to an SSD and try to go back. Regular hard drive based machines feel like slow old beasts to me now regardless of the other system specs. One final note, hard drive size is used as a marketing tool and most laptop or tablet users really don't need a 1TB hard drive. 120Gb fits any OS comfortably with room for common apps, 250 or more lets you install large programs and store some media files, 512 is more than is easily used by programs alone and lets you carry around large music collections and video files. 1TB lets you carry around a reasonably large movie collection. Some people will fill up whatever they have, but many never even come close. |

| 1423663 | 2016-07-26 01:05:00 | Hi All. Just curiosity really. A)How does Lenovo stack up against Toshiba & Asus, brand wise, quality etc. Lenovo : they pre-install far too much crapware. And the worst sort of pre-installed crap as well. Malware has been pre-installed by them, yet they dont learn from past mistakes www.makeuseof.com Asus : for some God unkown reason, they split the Hard Drive in 2 halves. No need to do that, it just causes issues (as the 1st 1/2 gets full, 2nd 1/2 doesnt get used) quality: it depends what price point & what model. All brands have sold a few duds. Just remember, they dont make the parts used in these things :) |
