| 642392 | 2008-02-21 07:44:00 | Hey all, I remember reading here ages ago that there was a way to download updates from Microsoft's Windows update. I am not talking about the Download Center, where you click a 'Download now' link and it's pretty easy. For example: In Windows update, the links normally look like: download.windowsupdate.com then some long filename with .exe The reason I am asking is that I am trying to download XP SP3 RC2 but it is only available through illegal sites - which I don' twant to use. The other alternative is though Microsoft Update (it's not listed in the Download center). The file is too large to download through update on my ratty connection, plus I want to do my Mum's computer with the same file. I am also curious to find the link. Thanks Joan |

| 642397 | 2008-02-21 11:26:00 | Thanks for the replies, but none of those are for SP3 RC3. They all do the same thing - a simple registry hack that allows you to download the file via Windows update. You still have to download the SP3 through the update site. But I know there is a wa to find the Windows download URL and download it directly. | MsJoan (13428) | ||

It gives you a direct link, to MS files, that are on the MS download site . Instead of going to the download site, and validating your copy of Windows / Office . Altho, I'm not saying that's why MSJoan wants the direct link . |
