326653 2005-02-23 07:42:00 After bragging about how good Xandros v3 is, I just tried to install an update to an extension on Firefox, and it completely froze. Restarted Firefox to find that all my bookmarks had gone and none of the menu items worked - they were all frozen.

Eventually I tried to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it, to find it still in a frozen state. Had to logout and log back in as root, destroy the mozilla firefox folder, and reinstall Firefox. It is working now, and it has found and imported my bookmarks, so no lasting damage.

Sheesh, what a waste of time epic. Still, I have had many similar events with Windows. I guess what it proves is that Linux ain't bomb proof yet either...

Sounds gastly! :annoyed: I've been trying firefox extensions under FC3, and so far, no problems other than some seem like duds . As a matter of interest, what firefox extension did you (attempt to) install? Forewarned is forearmed!

Gmail notifier, Forecastfox, Colorzilla, Show image, and Google rating, all seem good on my system .

Well, the odd thing is that it was Flash block. It was running successfully (I thought) but I did the wrong thing and checked to see if there were any updates to extensions. There was, for Flash block, so I didn't think anything of it, tried to install, and then it froze trying to make some changes to chrome (I was so flustered I didn't copy the exact error message). So the only way to get out of it (I thought) was to log out, then log back in again, and the rest is history... :groan:

Take a look here (http://www.gnome-look.org/) for some decor material.

Good to hear you got Ubuntu installed without your X snuffing it this time. :)

326659 2005-02-23 09:43:00 I've tried a few distros, like mandrake the best, canons driver support is useless, eventually got everything working except for the scanner, only use it for interest & messing around. If you want to do anything properly without endless pratting around xp is the way to go. I can see the linux advantage, but severe user unfriendliness is a killer. Phil B (648)
326660 2005-02-23 09:54:00 Amazing attitude,I dont like what you say,so don't say anything. You would have to agree that a chap who is reasonably savvy, has spent probably hours on trying to get the thing to work has not got very far,I don't know what it suggests to you,but to me,well I have just sent another $100 to Bill for doing such a good job. :groan: Cicero (40)
