328344 2005-02-27 00:56:00 hmmm.

You don't need a company name registered or otherwise to purchase a domain name.

My hosting cost $4 a month, is never down, and snappy......

328345 2005-02-27 01:03:00 I know I don't literally need a company name to register a domain name. But what am i going to register the domain name as if not the name of my company?

$4 a month sounds much better than $20. Where's that, and how much data/traffic do you get?

Does it cost to register a domain name, separate from hosting?

328346 2005-02-27 01:26:00 Hi, im in the same boat as you Atredies

Paradise have a few web hosting and domain name package things (www2.paradise.net.nz). 20 MB storage with 500MB traffic costs $20 every 28 days. Reasonable?

Not really, for $20 a month, I could offer 200mb space, 3gb bandwidth, and the Paradise amounts would be about $5 a month. Lots of places do it even cheaper. I saw one place with $1gb space, 20gb bandwidth for $4US a month. That is insanely cheap. It was for a monthly special though, and that was a couple of months ago.

Paradise is probably good quality though. I wouldn't really know.

328347 2005-02-27 02:18:00 Those insanely cheap american hosting plans are generally pie in the sky, offer the world and if you then make use of it they do handy things like delete your site, have it offline for large periods, throttle access speeds. Or just delete your account and pretend you don't exsist.

All the good stuff.

Best bet is to go for a reputable NZ company.

I use http://kiwiwebhost.co.nz/ and was on the dollar a week deal untill I recently upgraded to accommodate the tradef1 site.

anyhow, back to what i was saying about a spectaculer site as a sales tools, I didnt mean one about yourself, If you were doing a pitch to me that is the last thing i would want to see, I was meaning a site that showed what they could have, base it on a ficticious business.Make it glossy, slick, and list on it the hosting fees, amount of email accounts, etc etc.And then use that site as teh base for their site,do it for each clientt, just do window dressing in the same template to fit their needs, that way you wont be starting over each time.

328348 2005-02-27 02:56:00 proper nzqa standard

Please never confuse NZQA "standards" (not really standardised) with "proper" in the future. EVER AGAIN.

328350 2005-02-27 03:42:00 Slightly cheaper than that, I think you can get a .com for about $25 NZ a year from some places.

Free arking has .com and .co.nz for $40 a year

Maybe I need both. Spectacular site for my business, and spectacular example business site. Though wouldn't my own business site apply to that somewhat? Do I actually need both?

I don't mean my personal site. I wouldn't use that for a client demo. Hmm. I suppose I need a personal site and a business site. But not a second example business site?

And these clients, where are they?

Is, uh, there a button or a release for these keys, I mean, clients?

328353 2005-02-28 06:02:00 about $60 / year
That's a bit OTT.

Most places are around the $40 mark, some are cheaper but service is dubious. Xtra charge a whopping $170 odd per year.

If you look around a little on the DNC site it's not hard to find the true wholesale cost.
