How do you become an official, MS-minted, card-carrying, bona-fide, certified OEM, to get a OEM license on your Windows boxes? Or do you just buy the boxed set?

I hope you didn't just decide that you are an official MS-certified OEM. That sounds kinda illegal, but then you never really know with MS licensing.

328013 2005-02-25 06:37:00 I've usually bought a motherboard, or a cpu, and that is sufficient from most dealers to be able to buy an OEM OS, well, that's my story  Terry Porritt (14)
328014 2005-02-25 06:42:00 And if you could see the collection of stuff in the Porritt playroom ( as Murray P and I have done) you might agree that his story must be convincing... He has enough gear for 6 Forum members .... TonyF (246)
328015 2005-02-25 07:31:00 ..........and you didn't get around to seeing inside the shed Tony  Terry Porritt (14)
328016 2005-02-25 07:44:00 Maybe next time ....
I don't have a shed. My wife has taken over one room for all her family history research, and I have another for quite a lot of audio gear. 2 sets of electrostatic speakers needing revision, plus assorted DIY amps and other stuff...
Incidentally ( from another thread) I do have a need for a PC board for a future amp project .....
Cheers Tony

Ah, you must be Tony "No Sheds" Jackson. Related to the Famous "Two Sheds" Jackson perchance? :D

I must dig out the plotter and check the pens still work and are not dried out, also have to make up a new RS232 cable with a 9 pin plug instead of 25 pin.

328019 2005-02-25 09:12:00 Thanks for the reminder vinref,
I did read the MS OEM license less than 3 years ago when I bought my PC . It's now in bits, mother board replaced, may well need a new HD too . If so, legally, I can't put, what I considered to be, my copy of XP back on the darn thing .

Stuff them . I'd sooner use Linux on the box than pay those . . . . . any more money . I never have & never will pirate anything . Pity about the third party software though . At least my Mac can read all the Windows back up CDs .

Not a good evening, looks as if I may have to find & learn about another OS .

328020 2005-02-25 09:16:00 As far as I care, i can't install it on nother computer. Hard drive dies, reinstall with the CD. Mobo dies, new install with same CD. I get provided with OS OEM install media, so why can't I use it? Edward (31)
