In the context of those, then the first one isn't so bad, which is often the way with music, or more accurately individual songs/tunes, some needs knowledge of the musicians, a context to place them, something to measure (as with an album full of em), otherwise they don't grab you. Right, nice chatting, but work calls. |

| 326705 | 2007-02-16 02:49:00 | Lyrics???? How about some English history??? Everyone fantasises about returning to their hometown and laying waste to it with fire and brimstone. Few of us ever get the chance. Come get some! (www.blythpower.co.uk) The lament sung by the amorous prison guard, when he fails to engage the affections of the indifferent Joan. (www.blythpower.co.uk) or A little song about a death and a funeral (www.blythpower.co.uk) as seen from the point of view of Katherine who had the misfortune of being the final wife of some English royal oaf. Nowhere is the concept of the north-south divide more incongruous than in Harrogate, (www.blythpower.co.uk)where the wealthy ladies in their Range Rovers have been stock-piling coal since the 1984 miner's strike. Even though they don't know what it's for. I confess to being part pom.. Sorry about that :) |

| 326707 | 2007-02-16 04:11:00 | .........., its Silverchair btw, Great aussie band.Your joking right? Great has beens.. They were clever kids, at 16 made an amazing CD with bass that all but destroyed one of my favorite noise-makers and no amount of car stereos.. but this new stuff is direct FROM the mold dribble that shows how people can stay in the machine and do anything, and sooner of later the masses will start excepting it, talent or not.... These guys burnt out before the hit 20... sad aint it? |

| 326708 | 2007-02-16 04:18:00 | On the subject of "great lyrics" i suspect great lyrics and "rock and roll" are 2 mutually exclusive concepts.. right from "shu-wa-diddy-diddy-dum-diddy-do" to the ramones war cry "gabba gabba hey" and ministrys "ding-a-ding-dang-my-dang-a-long-ding-dong" (excert from "jesus built my hot rod" which is the last song played at the crusty demons show) great lyrics.. yeah right pigs fly, but only in auckland... the flying pig never got to the CHCH show. |

Cant say I agree, There first album is more generic then anything else they have done, and they have grown since that point, If that hadn't then they would be little more then a footnote. As it stands they have 4 worthy albums behind them, and 5th about to come out, They have enjoyed worldwide success and toured the globe, I saw them live a few times and they rocked, They rocked with more conviction then numerous big badder bands on the same bill. So yeah, In my opionion they are a great aussie band. And even if they did burn out by age 20 they lived the rock n roll roller coaster for 5 years at the top level, How is that sad? As for Ramones, One dimensional wonders, Ministry are 1 sound byte losers, Lost in a haze of drugs and weak music, and good riddance to them,I wouldn't mention either band in the same sentance as worthy of hearing let along in the same breath as good let along great lyrics. |

I've seen many a great band whose music i wouldn't let near my HDD As for Ramones, One dimensional wonders, Ministry are 1 sound byte losers, Lost in a haze of drugs and weak music, and good riddance to them,I wouldn't mention either band in the same sentence as worthy of hearing let along in the same breath as good let along great lyrics. The point with the ramones, ministry, and whoever went "shu-wah-diddy" is that rock and roll lyrics are often little more than a vocal noise designed to fit, and thus allow the song to keep going... Some artists took it to the extreme, possibly taking the piss and seeing if people got the joke or not... who knows? Depth is not something to be expected, usually, although this is often better than political tripe coming from people so useless that they are in fact musicians, but who somehow feel they have the right to tell the actual doers what they should be doing.... Although i will agree about your ministry comment in 90% of their work, just not Psalm69, where "Jesus built my hotrod" and its' o so stupid "lyrics" come from. :) |
