326832 2005-02-21 03:54:00 wicked, a free distro on a disk is brilliant. im just wondering, have you recived a cd yet? that must cost them a fair bit to send it from the states or where ever it comes from :) Prescott (11)
326833 2005-02-21 04:14:00 Hey Prescott,

I received mine last week, took 3 weeks, but they say it can take from 4-6 weeks depending on where you are.

I only got the x86 version, comes in a boxed package with Hard Drive installation CD and a Live CD.

I wasn't too greedy and only asked for 1 CD. I haven't tried installing it yet, but the Live CD is good to try it out first to see if it works correctly before attempting to install.

Cheers,

Kame.

No, they will do that in hope that you will give these cd's to friends, and so on.

326837 2005-02-21 07:15:00 yeah i noticed that, but still that must cost Ubuntu a hell of a lot of money to send that to the other side of the world. Prescott (11)
326838 2005-02-21 07:17:00 They actually send 10 sets by default because the postage for 1 is the same for 10. They come from Zurich, and take about 3-4 weeks to arrive. Very nicely presented in a glossy double CD sleeve. :) You can hand out the CD's to friends etc as ILL suggests and the Live-CD is good for those who wish to take a peek preview at Ubuntu without having to install Linux.

[edit]
The CD's are sponsored by Canonical (http://www.canonical.com/)

326839 2005-02-22 04:14:00 got my pack of 10 today, had a play with the live one, then installed the real one, it is not a bad dist, not quite as good as Xandros 3 but then again it's only just out of beta stage, the next release is due out soon, will be interested to see that one also robinm (7292)
